Exploring Doxa Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

A new brand to C W Sellors is Doxa and their remarkable collections of diving watches for men. They are instantly recognisable for their brightly coloured dials, highly machined cases and impressive automatic movements. In the short space of time we have had Doxa watches on our website, they have proven to be incredibly popular with our customers, particularly Doxa limited edition watches. In honour of how much you lot are loving them, we thought we would do an introduction to the brand alongside an in depth review of all the key Doxa watch collections.

The history of Doxa watches first began in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland when George Ducommun, at the age of only 21, began his own business as a watchmaker. His dedication and attention to detail did not go unnoticed, with history reporting that he even walked twenty-odd kilometres to deliver a watch to a customer. He fell in love with the intricacy of watchmaking and decided that instead of modifying existing components, he would create his own. This was when “Georges Ducommun, Fabriques Doxa” was born.

Translating from the Greek word ‘glory’, the name Doxa quickly grew in reputation for its exceptional workmanship, quality and value. Ducommun’s talent for watchmaking was honoured at the “Exposition Universelle et Internationale,” the World’s Fair held in Liège, Belgium, and in 1906 an anti-magnetic DOXA won the gold medal at the World’s Fair in Milan, Italy. From then on, Doxa watches continued to thrive. Their most significant collection, the Doxa Sub watch was released in 1967 and introduced radical innovations to the diving world that still remain the benchmark for professional and military divers today.

Doxa Sub 200 Watches

Boasting a winning combination of vintage diving aesthetics and competitive pricing, the Doxa Sub 200 watch collection boasts impressive features for its use in water. Crafted from highest-quality 316L stainless steel and topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, each Doxa Sub 300 watch boasts a highly durable and water resistant design measuring to 42mm in size. At Baselworld this year, we were treated to two extraordinary Doxa Sub 200 Limited Edition watches: the Sub 200 T-GRAPH and the Sub 200 130th Anniversary Celebration watch. The latter beautifully celebrates the brand’s 130th birthday and has been one of our bestselling models so far this year.

Doxa Sub 300T Watches

The first Doxa Sub 300T watch was released back in 1969 and became the first general public divers watch equipped with a helium release valve. Now, 50 years later for 2019 we have been treated to a brand new Doxa Sub 300T collection that pays tribute to the original. The model is available in six colours, each boasting a high performing automatic movement, 1,200 metre water resistant 42.5mm case and a patented unidirectional rotating bezel with an integrated no decompression dive time calculator. We particularly love the colour of the Doxa Sub 300T Aquamarine watch and its ocean themed dial.

Doxa Sub 1200T Watches

The Doxa Sub 1200T watch was first released in 2010 to once again honour the original Sub 300T Conquistador and its innovative helium release valve. This time, its tribute comes with sleeker looking indices, slimmer lugs and slightly different font styling on the dial. Remaining a three handed 42.5mm divers watch, the Sub 1200T is crafted from stainless steel and boasts a 1,200 metre water resistance. Our customers are currently loving the Doxa SUB 1200T Professional Limited Edition watch and its vintage inspired rice bracelet that instantly transports us back to the 1960’s.

Doxa Sub 1500T Watches

For those that want a diving watch with a little more bulk, the Doxa Sub 1500T watch collection might be the one for you. Measuring to a larger 45mm in size and coming in with an improved water resistance of 1,500 metres, this collection is perfect for those wanting to go that extra mile. It continues to boast the same patented unidirectional rotating bezel and integrated helium relief valve as its legendary predecessor alongside a Superluminova decorated dial and sapphire crystal glass. The Doxa Sub 1500T watch looks striking with the Divingstar dial colour, a bold yellow choice for the self-assured.

Doxa Sub 4000T Watches

Last but not least is the Doxa Sub 4000T watch. There are currently only three models within this collection, each limited to 300 pieces or less. The Doxa Sub 4000T is the first from the brand to showcase the original SUB design of the 1960’s with a brand new rounded case. The more ergonomic shape allows the stainless steel case to sit more comfortably against the wrist while forming a new integrated crown protector. It also comes with the largest case out of all the Doxa watches available measuring to a striking 47.5mm in size and is the first to show off a power reserve indicator on the dial.
