NEW Watches & Wonders 2024 Release – The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen Watch

Jewellery & Watch News

How many watches do you know that carry zero oxygen inside their case? The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen watch does. This 2024 release boasts a proprietary material and is limited to just 1969 pieces worldwide.

Here’s some news for you. Montblanc is pushing its 0 Oxygen concept further with the release of the new limited edition 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen watch. It does so with a new case material. Montblanc’s technology captures C02 from biogas production and mineral waste produced as a by-product of recycling materials. This powder extracted contains C02 and CACO3 and is blended with carbon to create a proprietary composite material called CARBO2. The tough material is environmentally friendly and suits the 1858 Geosphere collection down to a tee. As with all 1858 Geosphere watches, it is built like the capable tool that it is, featuring a robust, hefty exterior that is built solidly enough to face any challenge thrown in its path. Quite simply, travelling around the world has never been easier than with a Montblanc 1858 Geosphere watch like this one strapped to your wrist. Its striking geographical design is a complete work of art, showing off both the Northern and Southern hemispheres of the Earth.

About the 1858 Geosphere Watch

Montblanc’s high-end timepieces from this collection pay homage to those models produced decades ago for the military. They are primed for the adventure-seeker and the avid explorer. What makes Montblanc’s manufacture even more exciting is the fact that it uses historic movements from its Minerva heritage. Some examples from other collections include the Minerva Monopusher Chronograph, which the brand has extended upon this year. It follows on from the previous year’s edition. That model featured the Minerva trademark chronograph complication but was like no other timepiece on the market. Its family, the Unveiled series, is quirky, functional and available in several attractive designs, but this one featured no pusher! Similar in style, features and architecture to that model, this year’s Minerva Monopusher Chronograph has a flipped chronograph movement. It means that the architecture of the movement is exposed through the side, front and back windows of the Minerva Monopusher Heritage watch. These features act as portals into the intricate mechanics at play. Put on display, in all its unobscured glory, the 192 components of the Calibre MB17.26 work in complete harmony with one another – each one having been placed by hand with utmost care and complete meticulousness. But now back to the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen watch….

The New Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen Limited Edition Watch

The new Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen Limited Edition watch, with its case boasting a pioneering process, reinforces the theme of adventure with its confident 43.5mm diameter. Although there are several other 1858 Geosphere 0 Oxygen watches available from the brand’s catalogue, this one takes the concept further thanks to its new case material. Aside from this point, the core design of the watch remains the same as previous models, mainly the one that was part of the 8000 series. Although a new version of that one has also been released, equipped with a chronograph, this 1858 Geosphere CARB02 0 Oxygen pays attention to the brand’s world time technology. It sits on the wrist with a depth of 13mm, featuring a sleek black allure thanks to the CARBO2 material. This is a particularly interesting piece to collect since it marks the brand’s first-ever use of the material.

What you have to love most about this new Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen watch is its incorporation of blue emission Super-LumiNova, which features along the side of the case and on the cardinal points of the bezel too. It refers to the Mont Blanc Mountain, stylized in an outline and engraved into the middle case. The design interprets the way that old glaciers appear blue due to their density, having been in the absence of oxygen. Interestingly, the engraving appears white in the daytime and illuminates in blue by night, matching the hands, hour markers and bezel markings. Surrounding the sapphire crystal glass of this watch is a blue gasket, forming a halo around the dial. The domed sapphire crystal glass front has also been treated with anti-reflective treatment and is highly scratch-resistant.

The rest of the design, as aforementioned, follows in the same footsteps as the other models in the 1858 Geosphere collection. At the 3 o’clock location on the case you’ll find an engraved crown bearing the Montblanc logo. The 100-meter water-resistant case also features a titanium caseback and is fitted on a black rubber strap with blue accents and a textile pattern that evokes the ropes of a mountaineer. The strap closes with a folding clasp and a micro-adjustment system.

Inside the new Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen watch is the Calibre MB 29.25 which, based on the Sellita SW300, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 42 hours. The engine propels a set of centrally mounted hands around the dial. These are accompanied by a running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock. In addition to this, two large globes representing the Northern and Southern hemispheres sit at the top and bottom of the dial, set against a rich black display to match the case. Upon the surface of the black dial is an alluring sfumato glacier pattern. The detailing is inspired by the interlocking crystals that form a glacier. Compared to the brand’s standard dials, this special “gratté-boisé” technique takes four hours longer to perfect.

Continuing the 0 Oxygen concept, the case of this new Montblanc 1858 Geosphere CARBO2 0 Oxygen watch is completely devoid of oxygen to preserve its performance and accuracy.
