Award winning family business, C W Sellors Fine Jewellery, is celebrating four of its long serving employees reaching the milestone of 25 years’ service. Matthew Hatch - HR & Personnel Development manager, Paul Barker – Workshop Manager, Graham Harrison – Workshop Supervisor and Vanessa Woodhall – Lapidary Technician have all been with the company for 25 years. To celebrate their long service, each member of the team has been presented with a personalised watch of their choosing.
Founder and Managing Director Chris Sellors commented, “We are incredibly proud of our long serving team members - we would like to thank them for their commitment and hard work over the years. The business has evolved and expanded exponentially over the past 25 years and our team members have developed in line with that, and I am sure will continue to do so! As a business we are committed to personal development and encourage our team to evolve and develop their roles ensuring the businesses sustainability, not only from a business point of view but also a personnel stance. We are a family business and treat our employees as part of that family unit, we are delighted to have retained these key team members over the years and look forward to their continued involvement in the company for many years to come.”
Educated at QEGS, Graham joined the business after a stint at Derby College and during his first year with the company his studies continued with a silver-smithing course one day a week at Chesterfield College through the business alongside his in-house training. Initially working on the lapidary side, he developed to work in the metal workshop and his role has now evolved to focus on customer repairs. The first to achieve the 25 year milestone Graham commented, “I was really surprised with the presentation of the watch, it is great to be recognised for the time I have spent with the business and I am looking forward to what the future holds for me at CW Sellors.”
Vanessa joined the business straight from finishing her studies at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and was trained in-house through apprenticeship style on-the-job training in all aspects of lapidary work including trimming, grinding, setting, finishing and polishing.
Also QEGS educated, Paul Barker was trained in-house initially in lapidary and has developed to be competent in all aspects of jewellery making, both in lapidary and metal work with specialist skills in the rare skill of chain making by hand. More recently Paul’s personal progression has evolved to embrace new technology and skills with CAD / CAM training.
Matthew Hatch began his training at the bench as an apprentice stone cutter before he progressed to become the Stone Workshop supervisor, following this he was promoted to the Workshop Manager in 2002. As the company grew, his role moved more towards the HR role that it is today. Alongside his on-the-job training Matthew attended Chesterfield College of Art taking a City & Guilds qualification in Jewellery and Silversmithing and latterly studied for CIPD Diploma in HR Practice.
