Jewellery & Watch News
The long-anticipated release of Bremont’s latest limited edition collection is here and with it they announce the launch of their first ever manufactured movement. The trio of Bremont Longitude Limited Editions house a calibre from their new ENG300 movement series while celebrating Great Britain’s role in clock and watchmaking.
We knew we were in for something good when earlier this year, Bremont revealed the opening of their first Manufacturing and Technology Centre named “the Wing”. They claimed the state of the art facility would become the main base for manufacturing Bremont’s mechanical watches with extra emphasis on creating in-house British components, and as it seems, movements. The new limited edition collection of Bremont Longitude watches marks a significant milestone in their journey with the launch of their first in-house manufacture movement. Not only that, but the movement also features original brass from the historic Flamsteed Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, London.
The Bremont ENG300 Movement Series
Before we take you through the watches in the new Bremont Longitude collection, you first deserve a look at the Henley-on-Thames manufacturer’s new ENG300 movement series. The first calibre to be launched in the line of British-made movements is the ENG376, the very movement used within the new Bremont Longitude Limited Edition watches. Its remarkable architecture has been designed to reflect the same of their headquarters at “The Wing” with a full tungsten rotor and a beautifully constructed custom balance bridge. The movement also features a silicon escapement and a total of 22 jewels.
Bremont always has, and always will, create robust and shock-proof timepieces so it is no surprise that their manufacture movements uphold these values too. Any room for improvement was acted upon to ensure the toughness of the calibre such as choosing to utilise a full balance bridge to support the balance wheel assembly and using traditional adjustment screws on the free sprung balance wheel to ensure a more precise accuracy. As we mentioned, the Bremont ENG376 calibre also features original brass from the historic FlamsteedMeridian Line at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, London. You can witness it forming a ring in the back of each Bremont Longitude Limited Edition engraved with the serial number of the watch. The automatic winding movement also delivers a power reserve of 65 hours displayed on a power reserve indicator at the 6 o’clock position.
The Bremont Longitude Limited Edition Collection
Now onto the Bremont Longitude watches themselves. There are three designs in total, one in classic stainless steel, another in 18 carat rose gold and a third in 18 carat white gold. Each are engineered using the brand’s famous Trip-Tick case construction to 40mm in diameter and 12.5mm in height. The cases are equipped with a scratch resistant PVD treated case bezel, domed sapphire crystal glass, a screw in onion crown and an immaculate case back engineered from its corresponding case material. The back integrates a piece of flat sapphire crystal glass to allow an insight into the remarkable ENG376 automatic winding movement. Surrounding it, there is also a ring of meridian line with Longitude coordinates for the Royal Observatory in Greenwich.
The dials of each Bremont Longitude Limited Edition also vary slightly with differing colourways complimenting their case materials. The stainless steel model boasts a dark grey face with a white minutes track and polished nickel hands while the rose gold reference features a full grey dial with rose gold plated hardware. Lastly, the white gold model’s dial is dressed entirely in white with gorgeous polished blue steel hands. All three are embossed with a raised metal central globe with debossed longitude lines, a meridian line running from 12 to 6 o’clock, a recessed running seconds dial, a big day window at 3 o’clock, and a unique power reserve indicator at 6. Dressed in red, the power reserve display is designed to resemble the Royal Observatory Greenwich’s red time ball, a simple yet ingenious visual device that gave nineteenth century sailors accurate time.
If the sophisticated aesthetics and traditional dial designs hadn’t already given it away, the new Bremont Longitude Limited Editions are purely dress watches with a simple 50m water resistant rating on the rose gold and white gold models and a 100m water resistant on the steel. Each of the three designs are complemented by an alligator leather strap and folding buckle with the steel and rose gold references opting for brown leather and the white gold model choosing black.
