The designer jewellery brand was originally founded in 2005 by Valérie Messika, who as the eldest daughter to prominent diamond dealer Andre Messika already had a talent for identifying only the finest gemstones. On a mission to change the presumption that diamond jewellery is reserved only for special occasions, she created a range of affordable diamond jewellery known as the Skinny Bracelet. Shortly after, Valérie unveiled the inaugural Messika Move jewellery collection in 2007 characterised by diamonds that appeared as if suspended in the air. The series was inspired by founder Valérie’s childhood memories when she would watch her father play around with diamonds, often sliding them between his fingers. The moving gemstone is revived within each piece of Messika Move jewellery today. The diamonds placed at the centre are suspended between 18ct gold as if they are floating so with each movement of the body, the diamonds gracefully slide up and down creating a sense of volume and fluidity. One of Valérie Messika’s favourite places in the world, and a country she calls second home, is Italy. Taking the word for ‘one’ in Italian, she created a discreet and sensual range of gold jewellery adorned with a single moving diamond.
