The Gucci 25H Watch Collection

Jewellery & Watch News

Geneva’s Watches & Wonders 2021 event was one of the biggest luxury watch showcases of all time and with it we saw the release of some remarkable new collections. For Gucci, the exhibition was all about their new Gucci 25H watch, an ultra-thin luxury sports watch designed to mark the Italian firm’s entry into the high-end watch market.

Gucci has been engineering watches since 1972, so it’s safe to say the watchmaking industry is not unfamiliar to them. However, it’s clear to see from Gucci’s own revenues that their most recent releases have been some of their best, all of which coincide with Alessandro Michele’s role as creative director. You can see it within the Gucci Grip watch collection as well as the Gucci Dive series, these fashionable timepieces mark a new direction for the brand and are perfectly targeting younger audiences looking for stylish, functional and multifaceted accessories. But while the previously mentioned Gucci watch collections are stunning both aesthetically and technically, they have not quite yet reached the boundary of haute horologerie. That’s where the Gucci 25H watch collection comes in.

On its release during the 2021 Watches & Wonders event, Gucci was keen to point out that their new Gucci 25H watch collection was their entry into the high-end watch market. Dressed in stainless steel and 18 carat gold, the watch’s main selling point is its luxury sports watch architecture which then houses in one model none other than a tourbillon movement… but more on that later. As for the cases, they are resolutely contemporary all while reviving the old-school 1970’s sports watch aesthetic originally conceived by the likes of Audemars Piguet. The fluid cases come in 34mm, 38mm and 40mm and feature distinctive angular sides, curved lugs and integrated five-row link stainless steel bracelets.

For the majority of the designs found within the Gucci 25H watch collection, a Swiss made quartz movement powers the skeletonised hour and minute hands placed at the centre of a beautifully striped dial. The dial is completed by the House’s monogram logo which pairs with an almost invisible crown at 3 o’clock helping in a handy 30 metre water resistant rating. The cases of the quartz Gucci 25H watches are available in stainless steel with several references opting for matching steel bezels while others provide an elegant contrast with bezels in 18 carat yellow gold.

As for the star of the show, the Gucci 25H Tourbillon watch is one we have to look at in more detail. It boasts the same streamlined silhouette as its quartz counterparts but is produced with an exclusive ultra-thin automatic winding mechanical movement inside. Named the GG727.25, the calibre has been produced by Kering in the Swiss watchmaking town of La Chaux-de-Fonds and features a rare tourbillon complication, a feature that has become the ultimate test of manufacture for many luxury watch brands.

The Gucci 25H Automatic watch measures in at 40mm in stainless steel and features a heavily brushed grey dial with the tourbillon featured through an aperture at 6 o’clock. There’s also a 30 metre water resistance, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating and a matching five-row link stainless steel bracelet. The GG727.25 calibre has been purposely named as such because the numbers seven, two and five are important numerical symbols within Gucci and represent completeness, balance, cooperation, curiosity and freedom.

If ultra-thin cases, sophisticated styling and high-precision movements are your thing, we can’t recommend the Gucci 25H watch collection enough.
