Jewellery & Watch News
Exclusively for international travellers and time zone hoppers, Raymond Weil has launched an exciting collection of Freelancer GMT Worldtimer watches equipped with dual-crown GMT and worldtimer function. There are two designs to choose from, a contemporary all-black piece and a distinctively vintage bi-metal steel and bronze edition with a gorgeous green gradient dial.
Case-wise the Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Worldtimer watches look remarkably similar to previous designs in the Freelancer series. The perfectly round cases are paired with long, angular lugs, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating, and unadorned fixed bezels. Dimensions come up at 40.5mm in diameter and 9.7mm thick, the latter allowing each design to slide effortlessly under the cuff of a shirt. The first model in the brand new collection comes under reference 2765-SBC-52001 and delivers a gorgeous, brushed stainless steel case and a beautifully contrasting bronze bezel. To the right-hand side of the case, you'll also find a pair of matching bronze crowns. The use of bronze in watchmaking has become incredibly popular over the last few years, due to the patina that develops overtime changing the colour and texture of the metal.
Alongside the steel and bronze Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Worldtimer watch, there's also a stealthy all-black design under reference 2765 BKC-20001. This piece is similarly engineered from stainless steel but treated with a black DLC coating. Both watches come with a 100 metre water resistant rating, sapphire crystal case backs for a nice view of the movement within, and a leather strap with an alligator print. The bronze edition is paired with a green leather strap while the black case elects a matching black band. Both straps close by a folding buckle with a double-push security system.
Each Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Worldtimer watch also boasts its own dial colour. The dials come in black or green, both with stunning gradient effects which go from light to dark. While the bi-metal model’s green dial goes from light to dark green, the all-black edition nominates a handsome black top which flows into a gentle light taupe finish. The same gradient effect is also used on the world time bezel ring so you can effortlessly view day and night times. Other dial features of the Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Worldtimer watches are Superluminova coated hands for the hours, minutes, seconds, and red, arrow tipped GMT, matching luminous hour markers and nice concentric detailing. Around the furthest circumference, you'll find the names of the 24 cities, each place located in a different time zone. There’s also the subtle inclusion of a date window at 6 o’clock.
Manipulating the GMT worldtimer movement couldn't be easier. There are two crowns positioned on the right side of the case, both screw-down to enable our 100 metre water resistant rating. the crown at the 2 o'clock position lets you alter the movement, aka the hour, minutes, seconds, date and GMT functions. Meanwhile, the crown at 4 o'clock rotates the internal worldtimer bezel. To ensure you never get confused as to which crown controls which, Raymond Weil have cleverly marked each crown appropriately; the 2 o'clock crown is engraved with the brand’s logo and the 4 o'clock crown is marked by a globe.
Housed within the Raymond Weil Freelancer GMT Worldtimer watches is the Calibre 3230 automatic winding movement. It is a Swiss made movement with an impressive 50-hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800vph and 47 jewels. As previously mentioned, you can see the movement through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back when the watch is off your wrist.
