Day three of our Countdown to Christmas Jewellery Advent Calendar showcase is the C W Sellors and Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket. The special pendant, designed in collaboration with the House of Faberge commemorates our 40th anniversary and was released earlier this year in time to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jewellery event, now proving even more collectable item than before. It was the original Fabergé Blue John jewellery collection back in 2018 that marked the beginning of a special relationship between C W Sellors and the House of Faberge. The prestigious manufacturer, known globally for its renowned gemstone creations and exquisite jewels, including the iconic and lavishly decorated Imperial Easter Eggs, of course, has used British gemstones in some of its most beautiful designs. Some of these breathtaking designs have shone the spotlight on the Blue John gemstone – a rare mineral that is mined only in the Blue John and Treak Cliff Caverns of Castleton in Derbyshire and has been used extensively throughout our own exclusive jewellery collections here at C W Sellors. The series of special pieces were put on display at our Christmas Wishes event at Chatsworth House in that same year and was showcased around the world. This year, C W Sellors decided to extend this very special partnership with Faberge and released the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee pendant – limited to just 22 pieces.
Together, C W Sellors and Faberge chose the Imperial State Crown to inspire this special piece – the very same crown that the Queen is seen wearing in her balcony appearances and on her return to the palace after her Coronation. It is also the same crown that the Queen is seen wearing in all her official Coronation photographs. Serving as the focal point to the limited edition pendant, its deep purple tones, combined with lustrous 18ct white gold meld effortlessly together to create this elaborately decorated pendant in celebration of our 40th anniversary. The Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket
To commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, this special Faberge Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket demonstrates the innovative spirit of one of the world’s most reputable and well-respected jewellery manufacturers. Limited to just 22 pieces, the locket reveals a hidden crown once opened and represents a celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s life as a monarch. This Christmas 2022, no gift could feel more poignant and significant than this white gold and purple guilloche enamel Royal Jubilee Crown Surprise Locket design. Its intricate finishes and its many examples of meticulous attention to detail are testaments to one of the world’s most famous designers and our innovative passion for British jewellery design here at C W Sellors.
The purple guilloche enamel and 18ct white gold locket is now considered a historical keepsake and showcases several colourful gemstones that replicate the Imperial State Crown worn by Her Majesty upon her return to the palace following her Coronation, as well as her famous balcony appearances.
The egg locket itself is crafted from 18ct white gold and is decorated with purple guilloche enamel, as well as a selection of round brilliant-cut diamonds amongst a series of ornate swirls. Sitting at a height of 12mm, the top of the locket can be lifted to reveal a selection of colourful, delicately set gemstones that replicate the jewel’s seen in the Imperial State Crown itself. Included within these gemstones is a 1.7mm ruby that depicts the Black Prince’s Ruby and a 1.5mm diamond that represents the Cullian II diamond. Other beautiful examples of craftsmanship include the gemstones set into the crown sitting at the heart of the locket. These emeralds are prominently set alongside blue sapphires that represent the St Edward’s Sapphire and Stuart Sapphire. The purple tones chosen for the surprise locket represent Her Majesty the Queen's Robe of Estate and Coronation Gown and contrast beautifully against the lustre of an 18ct white gold chain.
At the base of the crown, a Platinum Jubilee hallmark is engraved. It features an orb and reflects the fineness mark for platinum. The commemorative mark by the British Hallmarking Council can only be engraved onto jewellery designs until the 31st of December of this year and has formed a key feature that runs throughout the 2022 Jubilee Hallmark Collection by C W Sellors.
