Oris Launches New Aquis Calibre 400 41.5mm Watches

Jewellery & Watch News

For the first time, Oris’ freshly developed Calibre 400 movement appears in a smaller version of the Aquis. Meet the new Oris Aquis Calibre 400 collection with a reduced 41.5mm case paired with a choice of green, blue or anthracite dials and bezels.

The Oris Calibre 400 was launched only at the end of last year, and already it has become a highly sought after movement in the brand’s range of Aquis watches. There are already so many luxury watch brands out there showcasing their own in-house movements; Breitling, IWC Schaffhausen and TAG Heuer are just a handful of examples. So, when so many other manufacturers have already gone “in-house”, what makes the Calibre 400 so special? Simply put, the Calibre 400 has been designed to solve problems rather than simply give the brand the ability to offer a most costly in-house movement. It’s quite the opposite in fact, with the new Oris Calibre 400 41.5mm collection remaining remarkably affordable despite their in-house construction. The Calibre 400 also offers an extensive list of benefits in terms of accuracy, anti-magnetism, power reserve and warranty.

For starters, Oris is so confident in the performance of its Calibre 400 movement that they are offering a 10 year warranty on all timepieces powered by it. This means that if you were to buy a Oris Aquis Calibre 400 watch today, you wouldn’t have to have it serviced until 2031… Another major benefit is its power reserve which for the first time see’s Oris’ divers collection equipped with an extended power reserve of up to 5 days, or 120 hours. This self-sufficiency is mastered by using a pair of mainspring barrels and a rotor placed on a more low-friction slide bearing system which winds in only one direction. The Calibre 400 also impresses with its high levels of anti-magnetism achieved using silicon for its lightweight and lubricant free anchor and escape wheel. 30 specialised parts of the movement have been tested to 2,250 gauss and promise a 90% reduction to magnetism. Lastly, the movement claims an accuracy of 3/+5 seconds per day, a rating well within COSC requirements.

“For us, it’s really important that a mechanical watch lives up to the expectations of today’s watch consumers. People expect a lot of a luxury watch, as they should. It has to deliver beauty, functionality and reliability, and it has to last a lifetime. That’s a lot to consider when you break it down, but with the Calibre 400 Series, I think we’ve achieved it.” - Oris Watchmaker, Cédric Röhrich

Alongside the Oris Aquis Calibre 400 watch which was launched at the end of last year measuring to 43.5mm, the Swiss watch brand has now unveiled a trio of smaller iterations measuring to 41.5mm. Each of the three models follow suit to each other, differing only in their dial and bezel colourways which are available in green, blue and anthracite grey. The bezels are unidirectional with a scratch resistant ceramic insert in its respective colour and frame a matching coloured dial adorned with Superluminova hands and indices. The cases are engineered from stainless steel and promise a 300 metre water resistant rating with the help of a screw in security crown and a screwed exhibition case back. Domed sapphire crystal protects the dial and is treated with anti-reflective coating on the inside while sapphire crystal glass on the back delivers a view of the Calibre 400 movement inside. Each Oris Aquis Calibre 400 41.5mm is then completed on a black rubber strap or stainless steel bracelet, both with folding buckles.
