Meet the Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 Watch

Jewellery & Watch News

Following the creation of their own customised motorbike, Raymond Weil became inspired to design a special bronze chronograph watch recalling elements of the vehicle. The new Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 Limited Edition is a stunning vintage-looking timepiece bringing to life the rose gold accents of the bike through bronze and a sporty tachymeter bezel.

A Collaboration with Meister Engineering

A few months ago, Swiss watch manufacturer Raymond Weil decided they wanted a customised motorbike to use for promotional purposes and so, they turned to firm Meister Engineering. The Geneva-based manufacturer comprises of some of the country’s best artisans and engineers, specialising in vintage restorations, particularly that of old motorcycles. The Meister Engineering X Raymond Weil bike is a work of art and a dream come true for any motorcycle enthusiast. It features a sweeping gradient black body, a contrasting rose gold-coloured fuel tank, matching rose gold lettering for the Raymond Weil logo and tachymeter and pulsometer scales engraved on the motorcycle tank cap. The distinctive blend of innovation and mechanical virtue ultimately inspired Raymond Weil to create a special edition timepiece commemorating the vehicle, that being the Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 watch.

The Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 Watch

Mimicking the accents of rose gold on the motorcycle, Raymond Weil opted for several bronze features on the new Freelancer Chronograph watch, most notably the case and counters gracing the dial. The 43.5mm case is entirely engineered from solid bronze, a material which develops its own natural patina over time as it reacts with moisture and other elements in the air and skin. This means no Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze watch will be the same. The case sits at a height of 13.7mm and is joined by a matching bronze fluted crown, bronze chronograph pushers and a solid stainless steel case back coated in a titanium colour.

Placed above the case is a black satin-finished ceramic bezel adorned with the same tachymeter scale found on the bike’s tank cap. The pulsometer scale is also replicated on the flange. The former allows you to determine the speed of a vehicle over a known distance while the latter can be used to measure heart rate. The Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 Limited Edition also features sapphire crystal glass and a brown calfskin leather strap evoking the material of the motorbike’s seat. The strap closes by a bronze folding buckle with double push security system.

Elements of the Meister Engineering bike continue to be replicated on the dial of the new Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 watch. The gradient black display mimics the jet-black finish of the bike’s body while the golden applied indexes, pulsometer scale, hands and chronograph counters mirror the rose gold found on the fuel tank. The hour and minute hands and appliques ensure easy legibility with Superluminova inserts while subtle details of red are added to the chronograph seconds hand, pulsometer scale and 30 minutes counter. A date window is also included at 6 o’clock.

Fuelling the Raymond Weil Freelancer Chronograph Bronze 7780 Limited Edition is the mechanical automatic winding Calibre RW5030 movement. Alongside 27 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, we’re treated to an impressive power reserve of 56 hours. The movement can be enjoyed through the sapphire crystal case back alongside its W-shaped skeletonised oscillating rotor, a letter chosen to honour the surname of Raymond Weil’s founder.
