IWC’s Special F1 Watches for the Fictional APXGP Team Released at Watches & Wonders 2025

Jewellery & Watch News

A glimpse at the new IWC F1 watches designed as part of the brand’s involvement in the new “F1” movie starring Brad Pitt.

Guess who accompanied IWC at last week’s Geneva Watches & Wonders 2025 showcase? Yes, no other than Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the upcoming “F1” movie starring Brad Pitt (shame he couldn’t be there, too!). The film was shot live at F1 weekends all over the world, including the British Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton joining the team as one of the movie’s co-producers. But it’s the watch worn in the film that’s getting the horological world talking. As a long-standing official timekeeper for the Mercedes Formula 1 team, IWC Schaffhausen was the fictional team’s sponsor in the film. Worn by Sonny Hayes in the movie was a prop watch, which IWC now takes inspiration from with its new release of the green Ingenieur model. The watch arrives alongside three sportier chronographs from the Pilot’s Watch collection. Let’s take a look at them all in a little more detail…

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP

As part of its new Watches & Wonders 2025 novelties, IWC Schaffhausen has released two new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph watches that celebrate racing subtly and elegantly. The models boast minimal branding in honour of the film’s fictional F1 racing team and come in two steel versions: one measuring 41mm and one measuring 43mm. A third iteration is available in 18ct rose gold, with an even more discreet design. The two steel versions feature a smoky transparent caseback that affords a view of the Calibre 69385 at work. The movement features a 6-9-12 arrangement and beats at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour, with a total power reserve of 46 hours. Upon the smoky caseback is the faux F1 team’s logo. The logo is also featured on the watch’s rubber band, making it an outwardly visible part of the design.

Alternatively, the 41mm rose gold version is less imposing and does not reference the APXGP name. However, it features a sporty black ceramic tachymeter bezel for tracking speed based on distance. A day-date complication sits at 3 o’clock in all three models, while the rose gold version replaces the silver-toned numerals with rose gold trimmings for a more luxurious finish. One of the nicest additions to modern watches from the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph collection is the EasX-CHANGE system. This tool-less spring bar mechanism enables for plenty of strap compatibility. All three of the new models come complete with this contraption, as well as supple black rubber bands that taper nicely for better size management and comfort.

IWC Ingenieur Watches & Wonders Releases

The Ingenieur is one of IWC’s most famous families, which first launched in the 1950s. Extending on the popular design, IWC has released several new models in sizes of 35, 40, 41 and 42mm. The smallest of the bunch, the 35mm models are available in stainless steel with a black or white dial or as an 18ct rose gold version with a colour-matching dial. The 35mm diameter makes for a refreshing change from the next size up – the 40mm models.

Amongst the releases is a sleek and stealthy Ingenieur 42mm model crafted from the brand’s proprietary ceramic alloy. As well as being lighter and more scratch-resistant than conventional case materials, the sand-blasted black ceramic case also helps create a more contemporary, tool-like look. Interestingly, the black aesthetics of the new ceramic Ingenieur 42 watch continue to the back of the case, where a smoked sapphire exhibition caseback gives way to a view of the Calibre 82111, equipped with a Pellaton winding system and several ceramic-crafted components for all-round better resistance to wear and tear. IWC completes the package with a matching black Ceratanium bracelet and a folding clasp that secures easily and comfortably to the wrist for all manner of outdoor pursuits.
