Jewellery & Watch News

As part of their Geneva Watch Days 2022 showcase, Czapek & Cie launches two colourful pieces to join their Quai des Bergues guilloche “Ricochet” line. Named the Czapek Quai des Bergues Sapphire Blue L and Emerald Green L watches, their magical centrepieces have been composed for Czapek by its partner Donzé Cadrans and lay the foundations for the brand’s upgraded SXH1 movement.
“The spirit of the watch has not been touched,” says Czapek CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel, “but we have had a second look at the movement and identified what you might call evolutionary inflection points.”
As many of you will already know, colourful watch dials are one of the biggest trends in the luxury watch industry right now and without a doubt, the new Czapek Quai des Bergues Sapphire Blue L and Emerald Green L watches fit into this category perfectly. Their centrepiece flinqué enamel dials revive the unique Ricochet pattern in two shades, the first is a gorgeous deep sapphire blue which has a somewhat iridescent, marine-like hue while the contrasting emerald green display evokes a similar shade to British racing green and boasts an intense concentration of colour.

The finely textured displays are interrupted by two smooth subsidiary dials at 4 and 8 o’clock, the former displaying the day of the week and its power reserve status out of 7 days (or 168 hours). The latter presents the classic small seconds. Other elements of the Czapek Quai des Bergues Sapphire Blue L and Emerald Green L watch dials include elongated Roman numerals, rhodium-plated Fleur de Lys hands and the Czapek logo at 12 o’clock.
With the “L” indication at the end of their name, the new Czapek Quai des Bergues Sapphire Blue L and Emerald Green L watches offer the largest case in the Quai des Bergues series. Coming in 4mm bigger than the “S” models, the stainless steel cases measure to 42.5mm in diameter yet still maintain the pared-back, no-nonsense approach to styling. There’s a smooth, unadorned bezel, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on the front, matching glass on the exhibition case back and a water resistance to 50 metres.

For many, the key attraction of the new Czapek Quai des Bergues Sapphire Blue L and Emerald Green L watches is the movement inside. The Swiss watch manufacturer reveals an upgraded version of its Calibre SXH1 proprietary engine which has been exclusively manufactured by movement specialistic Chronode. Some of the most significant changes can be enjoyed through the case back including openwork bridges, triangular cut outs below the barrels and mi-glace jewels. The oscillating rotor has also been upgraded as have the bridge plate and balance bridge, now hollowed out, and the hairspring features a Breguet terminal curve. The manual winding movement still runs at a frequency of 21,600vph and stores a whopping 7 day power reserve.

Both Czapek Quai des Bergues watches are completed by alligator leather straps equipped with stainless steel pin buckles. The Sapphire Blue L model opts for a strap in dark navy blue while the Emerald Green L watch elects a leather band in dark brown. The designs are not limited so are placed in the permanent collection and retail at £20,900.
