The Case & Strap
Like those before it, the new 2023 TAG Heuer Indy 500 watch is placed within the brand’s famous motorsport-inspired Formula 1 stainless steel case with a 43mm diameter. It offers a combination of fine-brushed and polished surfaces and on top presents sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a black fixed bezel. The bezel is adorned with a white printed tachymeter scale for measuring the approximate speed of a vehicles over a known distance and both the TAG Heuer shield and Indy 500 logo in the watch’s new golden brown hue.
The case of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Indy 500 Limited Edition also offers a screwed down stainless steel crown offering a 200 metre water resistant rating and a screwed down case back engraved with the Indy 500 emblem. It secures to the wrist by a three-row link stainless steel bracelet with fine-brushed finishing and a folding buckle with a double safety system and driver’s extension so it can be easily adjusted for fitting over a thicker sleeve.
The Dial & Movement
The specs above are a familiar sight to TAG Heuer’s Formula 1 Indy 500 watches while the dial stands out with a new colour palette for the year 2023. Inspired by the legendary Indy 500 brickyard, the display is beautifully detailed with a black asphalt-like finish on the right side and a narrow, warm golden brick-like pattern on the left side. The combination of these colours is very beautiful and made all the more uniform thanks to the subtle integration of gold on the 1/10th second chronograph counter at 6 o’clock, central chronograph seconds hand and 30 minutes chronograph counter hand at 9 o’clock.
The dial of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph x Indy 500 Limited Edition retains the large Arabic numerals of the Formula 1 family alongside two large skeletonized hands for the hours and minutes and a small seconds dial at 3 o’clock. The hands and numerals are generously adorned with glow in the dark Superluminova and are joined by a cleverly integrated date window at 4 o’clock. Powering the mass of functions on the dial is a Swiss-engineered quartz movement for high levels of precision and reliability.
