C W Sellors X Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket

Jewellery & Watch News

We couldn’t be more excited to share our latest collaborative piece with the House of Fabergé, this time in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The new Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket embodies the celebrations with a royal purple guilloche enamel exterior and a special motif inside reimagining the famous Imperial State Crown.

C W Sellors and Fabergé have held a special relationship ever since the debut of the original Fabergé Blue John jewellery collection back in 2018. The series was designed in celebration of C W Sellors’ 40th anniversary and marked the first time in history Fabergé had used British gemstones within their masterful creations. It gave Blue John a well-deserved spot in the limelight as it was showcased around the world, including our 2018 Christmas Wishes event held at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. For our next collaboration, C W Sellors and Fabergé unite to celebrate one of the biggest events for Britain this year, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, with the launch of a special 22-piece limited edition pendant inspired by the Imperial State Crown.

Choosing which of the crowns should inspire the crown element hidden inside the new Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket was of utmost importance. While it is widely known that the St Edward’s Crown was used for the coronation, it was in fact the Imperial State Crown which the Queen wore on her return to the palace. It is also the headpiece she is seen wearing in all the official coronation photographs taken inside Buckingham Palace and on her balcony appearances. And so, together with Fabergé, it was decided that the Imperial State Crown would be the focal point of the limited edition pendant.

“With our own workshop and design team using the world’s finest gemstones, the Imperial State Crown is such a special piece. With its striking gemstone inclusions, it made a natural choice for us to explore with our friends at Fabergé for this memorable royal occasion.” - Rebecca Sellors, Director at C W Sellors.

Opening up the Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket reveals a stunning miniature of the Imperial State Crown at only 12mm in height. It pays homage to the mass of gemstones set in the original headpiece with its own selection of rare stones including a 1.7mm ruby centrepiece to evoke the Black Prince’s Ruby and a 1.5mm diamond to represent the Cullian II diamond. There are also emeralds, just like those found within the Imperial State Crown, and the inclusion of blue sapphires to represent the famous St Edward’s Sapphire and Stuart Sapphire.

When closed, the Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket forces all your attention onto its breathtaking hand guilloche exterior finished in purple enamel, a colour chosen specifically for its association with the Platinum Jubilee and the purple in Her Majesty the Queen's Robe of Estate and Coronation Gown. Interrupting the flow of enamel is swirls of 18ct white gold and a selection of hand-set brilliant cut white diamonds. The pendant hangs from a matching 18ct white gold chain and a special infinity symbol-shaped bail.

Fabergé today continues the tradition of my great-grandfather’s company by creating bespoke gifts to mark significant occasions. This crown surprise locket, created in partnership with C W Sellors, honours the remarkable reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee.” - Sarah Fabergé, great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé and Head of Heritage Council and Director of Special Projects

Completing the 22-piece limited edition Fabergé Royal Jubilee Crown Surprise Locket is a special engraving on the base. As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the British Hallmarking Council has sanctioned a commemorative component mark which can be stamped on all precious metal goods including fine jewellery for the year 2022. The new mark has been designed by Thomas Fattorini Ltd and depicts ‘EIIR’ over ‘70’ within an orb to mark the number of years Her Majesty the Queen has been in service. The hallmark, which has become a highly collectible design in itself, can be found stamped on the bottom of the Fabergé Royal Jubilee Crown pendant.
