Breitling’s best-selling chronograph returns with a timeless new black backdrop for its chronograph and GMT complication in the Breitling Avenger Chronograph GMT 45 Black Dial watch. Available on a sturdy metal bracelet or a relaxed military-leather strap, the design yet again ensures unrivalled precision and functionality for the airborne adventurer.
Ever since its debut in 2001, the Breitling Avenger watch has delivered unparalleled reliability, robustness and readability for use on land and in the air. In 2019, the Swiss watch brand updated the popular collection to introduce more modern, performance-inspired pilot’s watches that still upheld the deep-rooted aviation heritage of the Breitling company. The new Breitling Avenger Chronograph GMT 45 watch offers all these same updates, pairing its coveted chronograph complication and dual-time hand with a new black dial.
The new Breitling Avenger Chronograph GMT 45 Black Dial watch maintains its large and tough-looking exterior with an imposing stainless steel case measuring to 45mm in diameter, 16.46mm in height and with a lug-to-lug width of 22mm. It’s not a small watch, that’s for sure, but it feels unbeatable on the wrist, especially with the equally chunky and ratcheted bezel placed on top. The bezel is unidirectional and set with four large rider tabs, three of which are engraved with references for the 60 minute scale and the last set with a large luminous pip. With a 300 metre water resistance, thanks to the screw locked crown and screwed down case back, you could use this bezel for measuring elapsed dive times when you’re not using it to track time in the cockpit.
Housed beneath cambered sapphire crystal glass treated to glareproof coating on both sides is the new black display of the Breitling Avenger Chronograph GMT 45 watch. The smooth black backdrop is adorned with a mass of functionality including a black 24 hour scale around its furthest circumference to pair with the bold red GMT hand for reading a second time zone. Then there’s three anthracite-coloured counters with snailed decoration at 12, 6 and 9 o’clock for the 30 minutes chronograph, 12 hours chronograph and small seconds and a large date window at 3 o’clock. As with all Breitling Avenger watches, readability is effortless thanks to the large stencil-like Arabic numerals and large sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes. Almost all of the core hardware on the dial, including the numerals and four central hands, are generously adorned in glow in the dark Superluminova.
Fuelling the Breitling Avenger Chronograph GMT 45 Black Dial watch is the Breitling 24 automatic winding movement. It provides hours, minutes, seconds, date, GMT and chronograph complication alongside a power reserve of 42 hours, 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph. All Breitling movements, the Breitling Calibre 24 included, is chronometer certified to ensure an accuracy of -4 to +6 seconds per day. Completing the Breitling Avenger Chronograph GMT 45 watch is a choice of two straps: a robust three-link stainless steel bracelet or a military-leather strap in black with contrasting white stitching.
