Since 2019, the Bremont Armed Forces watch collection has celebrated the British watchmaker’s partnership with the Ministry of Defence and reinforced them as the sole luxury watch brand to use the signs, symbols, and heraldic badges of all three services. Alongside the Bremont Argonaut and Bremont Arrow, the Armed Forces family features the popular Bremont Broadsword watch which beautifully tributes the Dirty Dozen watches of the 1940’s. Joining the series for 2023 is the new Bremont Broadsword Recon Limited Edition, a limited edition of 200 pieces which for the first time in Bremont Armed Forces history showcases a rare sandwich dial.
Nick English, Bremont Co-Founder comments on the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch: “The Recon harks back to the original Dirty Dozen watches synonymous with military and exploration heritage yet feels incredibly modern on the wrist through the sandwich dial and a lovely saturated lume effect. We introduced a sandwich dial for the first time with our Bamford collaboration and absolutely loved the result so are thrilled to be bringing it back with this model also offering something that feels quite different within our Armed Forces stable of watches.”
The unique, sandwich dial of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch is created by placing two discs on top of each other for increased legibility and a satisfying visual depth. The bottom disc is entirely coated in Superluminova while the top matte black disc is cleverly cut out with apertures for the indexes. In daylight, the numerals appear coloured in a gorgeous, vintage-inspired beige but then at night, they grow vibrantly in green. The same Superluminova is also applied to the large sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes for exceptional readability. The dial of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch also reveals a sunken small seconds dial at 6 o’clock with additional Superluminova markings, a glossy black sloped minutes ring and a date window at 3 o’clock.
The rest of the Bremont Broadsword Recon Limited Edition mirrors those before it with a 40mm diameter, 12.5mm height and a perfectly round, satin-polished stainless steel case. The case is engraved with stripes down sides and set with a smooth fixed bezel, screw in crown decorated with the Bremont propeller logo and domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. Turning the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch over reveals a screwed down case back water resistant to 100 metres and stamped with the badges of all three services. The back is also engraved with ‘Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces’ but this will later be updated once the King’s crest has been decreed.
Powering the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch is the chronometer certified BE-95-2AV automatic winding movement with 31 jewels, a Glucydur balance wheel, an Anachron balance spring and a Nivaflex mainspring. We’re also promised a 38 hour power reserve and frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. There are two editions of the Bremont Broadsword Recon watch available to order, both come with a military-inspired NATO strap with stone and grey stripes and then a second strap of your choosing. You can choose from an additional black rubber strap or a vintage brown leather strap with contrasting white stitching.
