Why the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator is the Ultimate Pilot’s Smartwatch

Jewellery & Watch News

The only Garmin MARQ 2 watch on a full titanium bracelet, the MARQ 2 Aviator is uncompromising in its design while inside, only the best of Garmin’s piloting features make the cut. Designed for those that spend just as much time in the sky as they do on land, the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator smartwatch delivers a stunning AMOLED touchscreen display, lightweight titanium case, 16 day battery life, jet lag advisor and so much more. Here’s why we think the Garmin MARQ Gen 2 Aviator is the ultimate pilot’s smartwatch…

Lightweight Case & 24 Hour Bezel

Finding the perfect pilot’s watch is no easy feat. The design needs to be unobtrusive so that it doesn’t get in the way in the cockpit and yet it needs to be durable, legible and host enough features to help you get safely back on land. Lucky for us, the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator watch meets all these requirements. It’s 46mm titanium case is incredibly lightweight on the wrist so despite its size, you’ll barely notice it is there. And yet because of its size, there’s a large and bright display for viewing things like the moving map and meteogram feature. Above the case is a gorgeous ceramic inlay bezel adorned with a 24 hour scale for reading off a second time zone and securing it to the wrist is the hardened swept-wing titanium bracelet.

AMOLED Touchscreen Display

A welcoming feature for the Garmin MARQ 2 collection is the introduction of an AMOLED display. Previously, the 2019 Garmin MARQ collection boasted a memory-in-pixel display with a 260 x 260 pixel display resolution which alone was still incredibly crisp and legible. AMOLED however delivers brighter colours, deeper blacks and improved responsiveness as well as a pixel resolution of 390 x 390. The touchscreen display remains protected by domed sapphire crystal glass for additional levels of scratch resistance.

16 Day Battery Life

Picture this: you’re on the runway about to take off for a fortnight-long trip and you realise that you forgot to pack your Garmin MARQ II charger. Then you remember, it doesn’t matter. The Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator impresses with a battery life of up to 16 days – that’s an extra 4 days compared to the original MARQ. You can also get up to 21 days in Battery Saver Mode, up to 42 hours in GPS mode and up to 14 days in Expedition GPS mode.

Multi-band GNSS with SatIQ Technology

On occasions where battery life is running low yet you still need to use the GPS function on your Garmin MARQ Gen 2 Aviator watch, you’ll be grateful for the new SATIQ technology. This GPS technology not only determines the optimal GPS mode based on your environment, but it can determine when multi-band GNSS is needed like near tall buildings or in a dense forest, or when a low power GPS mode can achieve the same accuracy in more open areas. SatIQ automatically toggles between GPS modes in order to maximize battery life without compromising positional accuracy.

Jet Lag Advisor

Perfect for all aviators, another new feature for the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator smartwatch is a jet lag advisor. As you’d expect, this handy tool is designed to help you minimise the effects of jet lag by giving you advice on light exposure, sleep and exercise. You can enter your travel details in the Garmin Connect smartphone app and monitor how your body clock is adjusting to its new time zone.

Direct-to Navigation

A fantastic feature for any avid aviator, the direct-to navigation feature on the Garmin MARQ Gen 2 Aviator watch lets you navigation straight to a location or waypoint. You can select your location in the worldwide aeronautical database or simply choose the Nearest function to set a path to a nearby airport. Working alongside this is the moving map feature which lets you pan freely across the map with a touch of the finger. You can even tap on waypoints to view more information about them and see NEXRAD radar overlaid on your route.

Weather Reports

Like the original Garmin MARQ Aviator, the new second generation model gives you access to aviation weather, including METARs, TAFs and MOS, to see winds, visibility, barometric pressure and more. The meteogram feature also lets you view graphical indications of MOS forecasts for specific airports, including projections for temperature trends, wind, dewpoint, sky cover, precipitation probability and more.

Airport Information

With the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator watch, you can also see in-depth details about a worldwide range of airports. View runway orientation – with wind components – lengths and airport frequencies to make landing feel effortless. On those rare occasions where an emergency landing needs to be made, the Emergency Mode will put you at ease giving you advice on your best glide speed, estimated glide distance and glide time during an engine-related issue. You’ll also see a bearing pointer to the nearest airport and see a list of alternate airports.

Plus Lots More!

If you can believe it, there’s hundreds more feature to enjoy on the Garmin MARQ II Aviator watch. Additional piloting apps include the Pulse Ox sensor which lets you monitor how well your body is acclimatizing to thinner air, a barometric altimeter, HSI course needle, flight logging, UTC pointer and time zone display and flight plan transfer. For when you’re on land, you can make the most out of the many health and wellbeing apps available on the Garmin MARQ 2 Aviator including the Health SnapShot feature, PacePro technology, animated workouts, stress tracking, sleep tracking, Garmin Coach, preloaded full-colour TopoActive maps and Garmin Pay. Your Garmin MARQ Gen 2 Aviator watch will also keep you fully connected to loves even while in the air with smart notifications.
