Garmin continues to revolutionise luxury smartwatch manufacture with the introduction of another rugged, purpose-built wearable: the Garmin Instinct Crossover. As part of the brand’s popular Instinct watch collection, the new design remains a durable GPS smartwatch for the outdoors, equipped with all the essential smartwatch functionality needed for endless exploration alongside a new hybrid display with bold luminescent hands.
“We created Instinct Crossover for active lifestyle individuals who prefer the look of a traditional watch but who are ready to tap into the functionality of a modern smartwatch,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice-president of global consumer sales. “By eliminating the need to compromise between tradition and technology, the Instinct Crossover reimagines and redefines the modern adventure smartwatch.”
The Hybrid Display
The new Garmin Instinct Crossover smartwatch combines the familiar construction of previous robust Instinct models, like the military-grade fibre reinforced 45mm cases and thermal, shock and 100 metre water resistant ratings, with a new hybrid display. A hybrid smartwatch unites both a digital display, in this case a monochrome, sunlight visible, transflective memory in pixel screen with a pixel resolution of 176 x 176 with two traditional timekeeping hands. The hands and chapter ring are generously adorned with glow in the dark Superluminova to ensure effortless readability in all lighting conditions. The hands overlay on top of its digital backdrop and move out of the way when customers want detailed smart feature data.
Assisting the new hybrid design, the Garmin Instinct Crossover smartwatch also debuts the brand’s new RevoDrive™ analog hand technology. This means each smartwatch will deliver accurate timekeeping even in the harshest environments. For example, should you accidently knock your watch while adventuring, the RevoDrive technology will ensure autocalibration to keep users precisely on time.
A Smartwatch for the Outdoors
Like before, the Garmin Instinct Crossover remains an essential piece of kit for explorers. On the Garmin Instinct Crossover Solar, you never have to worry about charging the watch as its Power Lens dial gives it up to 70 days of battery life in smartwatch mode with solar charging. Even the non-solar models impress with nearly a month of battery life in smartwatch mode and more than 110 hours in GPS mode.
The Garmin Instinct Crossover smartwatch also delivers a long list of outdoor and fitness features including GPS tracking, Multi-GNSS support, ABC sensors, TracBack® routing, which helps users navigate the same route back to their starting point, and Reference Point, which helps users keep track of a known place relative to their location. You can also be motivated by fitness features like VO2 Max, Pulse Ox2, Fitness Age, Training Status/Load/Effect, HRV Status, and Recovery Time as well as wellness features like advanced sleep monitoring, stress tracking, hydration tracking and so much more.
The Different Variations of the Garmin Instinct Crossover
There are several Garmin Instinct Crossover watches to choose from, each varying slightly in their colour, battery life and range of functions. There’s a duo of Garmin Instinct Crossover Standard Edition watches which are powered by a conventional rechargeable battery which lasts up to 28 days in smartwatch mode and up to 111 hours in GPS mode. This version is available in Black or Blue Granite. Then, there’s pair of Garmin Instinct Crossover Solar watches equipped with the brand’s Power Lens technology. Here, you’ll get an extended battery life of up to 70 days in smartwatch mode and up to 553 hours in GPS mode. The 45mm cases for the Instinct Crossover Solar are done in Black or Tidal Blue.
Finally, there’s a single Garmin Instinct Crossover Tactical Edition watch will a full black case and rubber strap. This design is solar-powered as standard, so offers the same battery life as the solar-powered models mentioned above but is joined by several additional features dedicated entirely to tactical training. These include night vision compatibility so you can read the new hybrid display even while wearing night vision goggles, stealth mode, dual-format GPS and a rare kill switch feature which wipes the device of all user memory.
