Up Close with the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition

Jewellery & Watch News

Last year, TAG Heuer announced a new partnership with powerhouse Porsche and in celebration launched two Carrera Chronographs watches. The success of these editions led the way for their next collaborative launch, a luxury smartwatch known as the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche. The design delivers frozen blue accents inspired by the Taycan car, advanced features engineered solely for Porsche owners and an exclusive ‘Circuit’ watch face.

Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer has undoubtedly one of the strongest ties to motorsport than any other watch brand in the industry. Their relationship to the sport began back in the 1960’s when the great-grandson of TAG Heuer’s founder, Jack Heuer, launched the inaugural Carrera collection. Coincidentally, German sports car brand Porsche is also synonymous with the Carrera name as they label one of their most powerful engines as such. The TAG Heuer Connected collection may be defined by its smartwatch technology, but its overall aesthetic still mimics that of the sporty Carrera. Yet again, the marriage between TAG Heuer and Porsche and the launch of the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition just makes perfect sense.

Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer says, “For both TAG Heuer and Porsche, the thrill of driving is part of our heritage, and this watch celebrates the fearless spirit of both Maisons - as well as highlights the sustainable innovation of the Taycan. This watch evokes many of the passions we share - high performance, technological innovation and our love for unique and unmatched products.”

Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, also adds, “This product highlights the natural synergy of our two brands: both fearless and disruptive in their respective fields, and both devoted to delivering unparalleled experiences to our customers. Our brands have led the way in embracing new technologies: just as TAG Heuer has led the luxury watch world in terms of embracing smartwatch technology, so Porsche’s sports cars such as the all electric Taycan innovate in their field.’

Inspired by the interior of the all-electric Porsche Taycan, the design of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition smartwatch includes a 45mm black DLC grade 2 titanium case and a black ceramic polished bezel adorned with several metallic blue accents. The knurled crown at 3 o’clock is lacquered with the TAG Heuer shield and the Porsche logo and number 100 on the bezel is printed in blue. The scale on the bezel cleverly references the Porsche car’s speed going from zero to 400 and can be used alongside functions like your heart rate or metrics related to your own Porsche car. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition watch also debuts a new black calfskin leather strap with carbon-like detailing, electric blue stitching and a black DLC titanium folding clasp with double safety push-buttons.

Alongside the already extensive range of customisable TAG Heuer Connected watch faces available, the new Calibre E4 Porsche Edition watch delivers its own exclusive display nicknamed the ‘Circuit’. The animated watch face comes with an electric blue circuit-inspired backdrop designed to evoke both printed circuit boards and racing circuits alongside large Arabic numerals. You can also opt for three subsidiary counters which will display information of your choice such as your step count, heart rate or information drawn directly from compatible Porsche cars.

If you’re an owner of a Porsche car, one of the coolest features of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche watch is its ability to connect directly to your vehicle. To do this, you simply connect the watch to the car using the exclusive Wear OS My Porsche app and you’re then free to use one or all four of the total features. The first reveals how much is left in the car’s battery and works with both all-electric Porsche and plug-in hybrids. The second shows ‘car autonomy’ information, exposing how many kilometres remain in the car’s battery or gas tank. The third is a shortcut to the Wear OS My Porsche app which enables users to control their vehicle heating and air conditioning. The last displays the total mileage driven in the car. To initiate these features, users need to have Porsche ID, a Porsche Connect subscription and the My Porsche app on their watch and phone. Compatible cars include the Panamera (G2 II models from 2022 onwards), Panamera (G2), 911 (992 models from 2022 onwards), 911, Cayenne (E3 models from 2022 onwards), Cayenne (E2 II), 718, Macan II/III, Macan and Taycan.
