There’s certainly no shortage of dive watches on the market at the moment, and while the Tissot Seastar collection isn’t always the first choice for professional and amateur divers alike, the new Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional Limited Edition watch has certainly turned heads this time round. Considered a more substantial and accomplished automatic version of their previous Seastar 1000 Quartz Chrono, the new limited edition comes with some remarkable new diving tech including a patented helium valve and a powerful 60 minute graduated bezel.
Whether you’re a fully trained saturation diver or a recreational water-dabbler, the integration of a helium escape valve on the Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional Limited Edition will leave you impressed. This is the first time a Tissot Seastar watch has been equipped with such technology, leaving the limited edition of 1,000 pieces water resistant to 300 metres. The helium valve has been cleverly integrated behind the crown at 10 o’clock which performs a double duty, to both lock the bezel in place and to provide a helium escape valve. The helium escape valve is automatically opened to eject excess air and helium that have become trapped in the case when you return from a deep saturation dive. The crown allows you to ensure the ratcheted 60 minute bezel locks into place so your chosen immersion time can not be accidently knocked during the dive.
Together, these Tissot patented technologies have allowed the Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional Chronograph Automatic watch to satisfy the ISO 6425 governing standards for professional diving watches including a water resistance of 300 metres, or 1,000 feet (hence the limited edition’s name), and a magnetic field resistance of 4,800 A/m. The case back, push buttons and crown are all fully screw down to ensure this with the latter protected by an additional flange. Measuring to a rather large 49mm in diameter, the Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional watch exudes an immediate sense of robustness and durability promising to resist issues of pressure, impacts and damage.
At its centre, the Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional Limited Edition captures attention with a handsome blue gradient dial which subtly fades to black around its ages. The ocean-themed background is then adorned with large, contrasting skeleton baton hands for hours and minutes coated in Swiss Superluminova. Around the circumference, more Superluminova decorates the indexes including a matching luminescent dot on the bezel’s 12 o’clock triangle marker. Powering each of the functions of the Tissot limited edition is the Valjoux A05.H21 calibre, a self-winding chronograph movement boasting a small seconds dial at 9H, a 30 minute counter at 12H, a 12 hour counter at 6H, day and date window and a healthy power reserve of 60 hours. The mechanical movement can also be witnessed through the sapphire crystal case back.
To mark its status as a limited edition, the Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional Automatic Chronograph comes delivered with two strap options. The first is a classic stainless steel three-link bracelet and folding buckle with diving extension and push buttons. The second is a sporty black rubber strap and classic stainless steel pin buckle. The Tissot limited edition is fitted with a special rapid-lock fixing system so that changing around these straps is easy and requires no fancy watch tools. To complete its overall impressive aesthetic, the Tissot Seastar 1000 Professional Limited Edition is presented in a special watchcase made of neoprene, a material used to make diving suits, and decorated with the iconic Tissot Seahorse logo on the interior.
