Taking inspiration from the brand’s first initial, the Mikimoto M jewellery collection sees a gorgeous selection of diamond and pearl jewellery beautifully wrapped in ribbons of gold to evoke the shape of an M.
The Mikimoto jewellery brand has gained a reputation of sophisticated and elegance like no other pearl jewellery manufacturer in the world. This is entirely down to the brand’s founder Kokichi Mikimoto who in his hometown of Joba, Japan set himself a mission to created cleverly crafted cultured pearls, to help prevent pearl producing oysters from becoming extinct. He began by trying to grow his own pearls in oyster beds in Ojima Island and after several years of experimentation, realised that Akoya oysters produced the best pearls. To do this, he would introduce a particle in the flesh of the oyster which encouraged secretions of nacre, an organic-inorganic composite material which builds up to a create a pearl. On July 11, 1893, Mikimoto discovered within the folds of an oyster his very first cultivated pearl that was just as worthy as a natural one. In 1905, after more than ten years of research, Mikimoto succeeded in cultivating a perfectly round pearl.
It was then in 1907 that Mikimoto established his own fine jewellery brand and ever since, the Mikimoto jewellery collections have been the only place worthy to shop for elegant, luxurious and high-end pearl jewellery. Every woman deserves at least one piece of pearl jewellery in their collection, whether it be a traditional pearl necklace or a breathtaking pair of pearl earrings. A great place to buy yourself or a special someone their first piece of high-end pearl jewellery, is the Mikimoto M jewellery collection. The series takes its name from Mikimoto’s first initial, featuring strikingly modern and feminine pearl designs encased in geometric 18 carat gold that is shaped to look like the letter M.
One of our personal favourite pieces in the Mikimoto M jewellery collection is the Mikimoto M Akoya Pearl Star Pendant. Available in 18 carat yellow gold or white gold, the star-shaped necklace features a single 7.25mm Akoya cultured pearl at the centre surrounded by a five prong star, which due to its unique forward facing angle can also be viewed as several M letters. The necklace hangs from a matching fine-link chain crafted from either white or yellow gold.
Another popular piece in the Mikimoto M jewellery collection is the Mikimoto M South Sea Pearl Rings. Again, the iconic M shape is reworked into the precious metal, this time into the shoulders of the ring which angle up and down to form the letter. Like the aforementioned necklaces, the ring is also available in a choice of 18 carat white gold or yellow gold with its shoulders beautifully adorned with a row of white pave diamonds. There is then a single White South Sea cultured pearl placed centre stage demanding much of the attention.
Finally, the Mikimoto M jewellery South Sea Pearl Earrings will complete your look, hanging elegantly from the lobe in a subtle yet sophisticated fashion. The unique triangular-shaped architecture of the 18 carat gold sits above the 12mm White South Sea cultured pearl, dressed in 0.27 carats of white diamonds. The single settings look breathtaking alone, but when you look in the mirror and admire the pearl earrings together, you’ll notice the unmistakable M letter appear across your being.
