The Gucci GG Marmont Jewellery Collection

Jewellery & Watch News

Inspired by the legendary double G belt buckle showcased on the runway during the 1970’s, the Gucci GG Marmont jewellery collection revives the emblem in a series of sterling silver and gold jewellery pieces.

During the early 1900’s, logos were almost entirely non-existent, and it wasn’t until 1933, when Guccio Gucci’s son Aldo joined the Gucci brand. that he crafted their first logo inspired by his father’s initials, a double G. Over the years, the logo has changed very little, and it remains one of the most distinctive brand emblems of all time. During the 1970’s, statement stylings and large, bold logos became somewhat of a trend in accessories, jewellery and clothes and so with this in mind, Gucci launched a collection of designer belts featuring the large double G logo at the centre for the buckle.

When Alessandro Michele took the reins at Gucci as Creative Director in 2015, it was clear that a new approach to design was in full swing, colliding contemporary ideas with some of the brand’s greatest historic achievements. One of these was of course the iconic double G belt buckle which has today been revived in the Gucci GG Marmont jewellery collection. Upon seeing the series of sterling silver and gold pieces, all of which come decorated in the overlapping G motif, you instantly get a sense of vintage revival but with distinctively contemporary elements like flower accents, pearls and coloured crystals.

Some of our favourite pieces within the Gucci GG Marmont jewellery collection are crafted from aged-finished silver with the double G logo set against a three-dimensional striped design with a bi-colour effect. There is a bangle and ring in this style perfectly pairing with each other for a bold, statement look. There’s also a series of Gucci GG Marmont necklaces, rings and bracelets harnessing the same three-dimensional stripe but with a unique key motif where the double G motif makes up the head of the key.

We’re also treated to a stunning set of Gucci GG Marmont jewellery adorned with flower charms and gemstones for a more elegant and feminine take on the 1970’s-inspired design. The beauty of the natural world is something that has always fascinated Gucci and Alessandro Michele – just a wider view of their jewellery collections will tell you that. For the Gucci GG Marmont flower pieces, the double G motif sits beside sterling silver flower charms set with the likes of pink mother of pearl and pastel blue topaz at the centre.
