Legendary silversmith Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe is forever immortalised in the range of Georg Jensen Marcia jewellery, taking its name from her daughter and reviving the sculptural elegance and organic shapes of her own love ring.
Swedish designer Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe remains one of Georg Jensen’s most celebrated and important collaborators. She is known as the world’s first ever female silversmith to have become internationally noted, beginning her career in the late 1940’s in Paris where she opened up her own studio. Her handmade jewellery was defined by its sculptural forms which followed the contours of the wearer’s body. Before long, her sterling silver jewellery creations earned her a reputation in the area and around the world, winning famous clients like Pablo Picasso, Brigitte Bardot, Ingrid Bergman and Billie Holiday.
A few years later, Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe started her long-lasting collaboration with Georg Jensen. One of her most famous designs continues to be the Georg Jensen Vivianna Bangle, the brand’s first ever watch launched in 1962 which took its name from its creator. The Vivianna watch is an unmoveable piece in the jewellery manufacturer’s collections; you can still find the simple, open-sided timepiece and its numberless mirror dial in their luxury watch line-up. Another creation by Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe is the Georg Jensen Mobius jewellery collection which takes inspiration from the mathematical phenomenon known as the mobius strip.
Alongside the extensive range of sterling silver jewellery she created for Georg Jensen, she handmade her own unique love ring which was designed to be a symbol of love and companionship. Posthumously, the Scandinavian jewellery brand decided to honour the designer with the launch of the Georg Jensen Marcia jewellery collection. The line took its name from Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe’s own daughter and brought to life the similar organic shapes and contours of the original love ring worn by her.
The Georg Jensen Marcia jewellery line boasts a stunning selection of sterling silver bangles and rings designed to be both strong and feminine, just like the designer that inspires them and the women that wear them. The creations all feature two fluid and sensual bands of sterling silver which elegantly wrap around the wrist or finger as if the metal has naturally moulded itself around the wearer. Some of the designs are kept bare for a pure, organic look while other pieces are adorned with white diamonds. The rows of gemstones on these pieces are set with brilliant cut diamonds which sparkle unmissably for a sophisticated finish.
