The Fabergé Treillage Jewellery Collection

Jewellery & Watch News

Characterised by its tactile quilting, soft edges and diamond and coloured gemstone decoration, the Fabergé Treillage jewellery collection takes inspiration from a famous Fabergé Easter Egg from 1892. Known as the Fabergé Diamond Trellis Egg, the creation was one of Peter Carl Fabergé’s most minimalist designs with the exterior imparting a diagonal lattice of diamonds, an image which is now beautifully reinterpreted within a selection of necklaces, rings, bangles and earrings.

The Original Fabergé Diamond Trellis Egg

The story of the original Fabergé Diamond Trellis Egg is one of mystery, magic and diamonds. It was originally created back in 1892 when commissioned by Tsar Alexander III as a gift to his wife, Empress Maria Feodorovna. Several years following 1885, Peter Carl Fabergé created several special Fabergé Easter Eggs for the royal family making the Fabergé Diamond Trellis Egg one of many. That being said, it remains one of the more understated designs in the entire collection, opting for a translucent pale green stone based lined with rose-cut diamonds in a criss-cross pattern. At either end, where the bands of lattice meet, two large diamonds add extra sparkle.

In keeping with Fabergé’s penchant for surprise, the Fabergé Diamond Trellis Egg held a secret inside. Placed within the white satin lined interior was a figurine elephant, but it was no ordinary figurine, it was the first Fabergé  automaton produced in his workshops. It could be wound by a key and moved elegantly, showing off its gold crosses and rose-cut diamonds. Following the Revolution of 1917, the Fabergé Diamond Trellis Egg was sold amongst many of the other Fabergé Easter Eggs and over the years, the egg and its surprise elephant were separated. For many years, nobody knew what had happened to the figurine until 2015, when it was uncovered in the British royal family’s art collection. In celebration of its discovery, Queen Elizabeth II kindly loaned the elephant automaton so it could be reunited with the Diamond Trellis Egg once again.

The Fabergé Treillage Jewellery Collection

Inspired by this story and the criss-cross detailing of the original Trellis Egg, the Fabergé Treillage jewellery collection features a selection of 18ct gold pieces designed with soft quilting and precious gemstones. The designs are the perfect marriage of heritage and modernity and look just as stunning worn alone as they do together. Some of our favourite pieces are the Fabergé Treillage Egg charms which evoke the tactile architecture of the historic Easter egg crafted from a choice of 18ct yellow, white or rose gold and set with solely diamonds or a combination of different coloured gemstones. The egg charms are completed by diamond set bails and are sold separately to a selection of Fabergé charm bracelets.

The Fabergé Treillage rings are another fine example of the brand’s prowess with gold and gemstones. Yet again, the cushion-like pattern is revived onto a solid gold band which comes in a selection of sizes. The Fabergé Treillage Grande rings are the largest with a diameter of 13mm while the 6.7mm sized rings are more suited to an everyday look and stacking. You can choose from Fabergé Treillage rings set with round white diamonds or gemstones like blue and pink sapphires, rubies, tsavorites, fire opals and amethysts.

A fairly new addition to the Fabergé Treillage jewellery collection a selection of huggie hoop earrings. The modern style pairs perfectly with the historic-inspired quilting, allowing them to be worn alone for a minimal look or stacked up the ears for a statement finish for those with additional piercings. The Fabergé Treillage Huggie Hoops come in rose gold set with 10 brilliant cut white diamonds, rose gold with multi-coloured gemstones or white gold with white diamonds. All are secured by classic post and butterfly fastenings.
