Jewellery & Watch News

There’s no shortage of smartwatches out at the moment. Brands like Garmin have pretty much conquered the industry with their affordable and easy to wear fitness trackers, but what we’re lacking is a luxury Swiss made smartwatch, one with an undeniably sophisticated design with all the technology we need to make it through the day. This is where we introduce you to the TAG Heuer Connected.
In November 2015, TAG Heuer introduced the world’s first ever Swiss luxury smartwatch, the TAG Heuer Connected. Based on their iconic Carrera case but with newly developed technology from Intel and Google embraced inside, these high-end wearables were perfectly designed for those with a chunk of disposable income looking to spend it one something truly special. Over the years, TAG Heuer have launched several editions of the Connected smartwatch. In 2017, they released the Connected Modular series which allowed the wearer to switch the smartwatch module to an automatic mode using the same strap and lugs. Now, for 2021, the TAG Heuer Connected watch has been fine-tuned once again to include a new a wrist based heart rate monitor, new dial designs and some new wellness, swimming and running apps.
“Within a timeframe of a year, the TAG Heuer Connected has established its status in elegance and sports," explains TAG Heuer CEO Frédéric Arnault. "In addition to elegance and performance, our users also expressed a strong interest for tracking their wellness. We value their input; we know how important it is to remain active these days. And we created the TAG Heuer Connected Wellness app for them.”
When you’ve got industry giants like Garmin trying to compete with their own luxury MARQ collection, you know the TAG Heuer Connected is doing something right. For many, it’s the overall aesthetic of the smartwatches that make them so worthy of their price tag. They are pretty, oh so pretty with the familiar lines and angular lugs of the TAG Heuer Carrera brought to life through a choice of stainless steel or lightweight titanium. You can then choose to have these cases left bare or coated in a stealthy black PVD. The case is topped by a variety of coloured ceramic bezels treated to a micro-bead blasted finish and scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass. The glass protects the OLED display with 454x454 pixel resolution.
The display of the TAG Heuer Connected watch continues to impress with a wide variety of dial designs to choose from. One of our favourites is the face inspired by the popular Heuer 02 model with a skeletonised backdrop and three subsidiary dials which you can use to display things like your step count, heart rate, weather etc. There’s also a display nicknamed the “Orbital” which we’d consider your more classic smartwatch face with large digital numerals at the centre and a cool-looking starry sky as the background. To take customisation even further, TAG Heuer then lets you choose the hour marker colours, the complications on offer and even the colour of the seconds hand.
Like its predecessors, the new TAG Heuer Connected for 2021 runs on Google’s Wear OS but it has received some additional customisation for better fitness tracking. One of the new apps is a wellness feature which gives the wearer notification of their overall progress against their fitness goal. All the stats are viewable through the app and indicated by two rings which show how close you are to achieving these goals. TAG Heuer has also released two new updates for the Connected watch’s swimming and running capabilities. The all-new swimming app will keep track of pool performance with tracking of laps, distance and interval breakdowns and even go as far as identifying four types of swim stroke (breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly and freestyle). Indoor running is also being added to the existing tracking of outdoor workouts which works nicely alongside the new high-tech resin integrated wrist based heart rate monitor spotted on the case back.
The TAG Heuer Connected continues to deliver built-in GPS to track your position, steps, compass direction and more and a water resistant rating of 50 metres. For the everyday moments, you also get access to all the classic smartwatch features you’d expect including notifications for calls, emails, message and calendar alerts. You can also make NFC payments using the Google Pay feature, get weather notifications and there’s even an option to stream music. The battery life of the TAG Heuer Connected 2021 smartwatch remains at a solid 24 hours.
