Reviewing the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold Watch

Jewellery & Watch News

For their first release of 2023, NOMOS Glashutte adds a new shade of blue to their well-known Tangente watch, a deep, rich, royal blue they have nicknamed “Blue Gold”. The new NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch comes in two sizes, 35mm and 38.5mm, and is fuelled by one of their legendary neomatik automatic winding movements.

Sometimes life calls for a modern, minimalistic timepiece; one with a simple, three-handed display with precision and beauty and its core. For occasions like this, we often turn to NOMOS Glashutte, a German-based luxury watch manufacturer who has made minimalistic Bauhaus design and in-house movements their speciality.  The NOMOS Tangente is one of their most emblematic models, having appeared in almost every colour and size. Today this watch returns in yet another colour, a gorgeous deep shade of blue known as “Blue Gold”. Here’s everything we know about the new NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch

For multiple tastes and wrist sizes, the new NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch comes in a choice of two diameters and with a closed or sapphire crystal case back. References 190 and 145 measure to 35mm and 38.5mm and elect a solid stainless steel case back while references 191 and 146 (again the former at 35mm and the latter 38.5mm) feature a sapphire crystal glass back for admiring the movement within. All four variations copy each other in the rest of their specifications, boasting a perfectly round stainless steel case with a bright polished finish, thin, angular lugs and a minimal height of 7mm. Sapphire crystal glass protects the dial, ensuring easy legibility in strong lights thanks to anti-reflective coating on the inside, while the non-screw locked crown ensures a 30m water resistance on the 35mm model and a 50m water resistance on the 38.5mm reference.

The novelty of the new NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch is of course the dial. Several shades of blue have been used on the NOMOS Tangente before, but never one quite this rich and deep. The dial is created using a special technique, the very same used to create the NOMOS Tangente Platinum Grey watch launched last year, which involves the dial being gold-plated before galvanised and sunray-brushed. The same royal blue hue is applied to the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock set with a white printed minutes track and a single rhodium plated hand. The same material is used to present the hours and minutes while silver-coloured printed numerals are rendered in the familiar Tangente font.

Housed inside the NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold watch is the Calibre DUW 3001, an ultra-thin neomatik automatic winding movement with a 43 hour power reserve and 3Hz frequency. The movement is manufactured entirely in-house and features the brand’s in-house Swing System escapement with a tempered blue balance spring and a balance bridge fixed by screws. It also features NOMOS’ three-quarter plate construction and has been regulated in six positions so that it falls within chronometer accuracy standards. Through the sapphire crystal case back of NOMOS Tangente neomatik Blue Gold references 191 and 146, you can admire Glashutte ribbing and perlage decoration on the movement. All variations of the watch are fitted with a black Horween Shell Cordovan leather strap closed by a stainless steel pin buckle.
