For many, DOXA is one of the industry’s most important luxury dive watch manufacturers. Their history began in 1889 but it was during the 1960’s that their passions for underwater adventurer established them as legends. During this time, DOXA launched the Sub 300, a watch with a broad, cushion-shaped case, beads of rice bracelet, an unmissable orange dial and a unique bezel that featured both an elapsed time scale and a no-decompression dive chart. All in all, it was a watch that would reset the standards for diving instruments. It was so significant in fact that legendary explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau displayed his passions by becoming the sole distributor of DOXA watches in North America. In 1978, DOXA was brought by the Aubry Freres Company in a move that would have a profound impact on the Doxa SUB collections. Included in that impact was none other than the Sub 600T.
Launched in 1982, the DOXA Sub 600T stood out rather dramatically to its other cushion-shaped counterparts with a far more angular profile. The new DOXA Sub 600T Pacific Limited Edition watch does just this with a sharp silhouette beautifully engineered from titanium, a material that allows for an incredible lightweight and scratch resistant finish. DOXA rarely uses titanium in its designs, in fact, from memory we can recall only two previous titanium forays. For the DOXA Sub 600T Pacific, the titanium is fully brushed and matte finished and makes it’s way across the entire 40mm diameter, 47.6mm lug to lug distance and 14.15mm height.
Titanium is also found on the off-set screw in crown at 4 o’clock detailed with the DOXA fish logo in orange and the screw down case back similarly adorned with the fish emblem on a wave pattern background and a reference to the Time+Tide collaboration. Both the crown and case back assist in an impressive water resistant rating of 600 metres. The DOXA Sub 600T Pacific Limited Edition watch continues to deliver resilience with domed sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating.
One of the most eye-catching traits of the DOXA Sub 600T Pacific watch is its stunning blue aesthetic. The cobalt shade is entirely new to the DOXA range and was chosen specifically to mimic the colour of Australia’s oceans in honour of the partnership with Time+Tide. The shade makes its way across the dial, rubber strap and the ceramic insert bezel. For instantly legibility of the unidirectional bezel and its twin depth-minute display, it comes adorned with fresh orange and white accents and a luminous triangle marker. The bezel is also equipped with the familiar notched detailing of previous DOXA Sub references.
Captured within the bezel is a matching deep blue dial similarly decorated in orange and white accents. Orange outlines the white Superluminova hour markers which alternate between diamond-shaped indexes and classic rounded markers while the hours, minutes and seconds hand match with a comparable blocky-style and glow in the dark inserts. Powering each of the functions is the trusty Sellita SW 200-1 automatic winding calibre which runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a decent power reserve of 38 hours.
