Oris reveals the new AquisPro Date Calibre 400 watch

Jewellery & Watch News

The new Oris AquisPro Date Calibre 400 is equipped with a 5-day power reserve, a lightweight titanium case, Rotation Safety System and a water-friendly rubber strap integrated with the Swiss brand’s patented Sliding Sledge Clasp

Identified as the watch of choice by professional divers and saturation divers – the Oris AquisPro Date Calibre 400 is at home on the wrist of those with aquatic aspirations. What’s more, the brand is promising a staggering 10-year guarantee on its fitted Calibre 400 – an in-house self-winding movement bragging a very useful 5-day power reserve. It sets new benchmarks in Swiss-made mechanical movement manufacture and sits inside a domineering yet lightweight titanium case.

Oris has drawn from its rich history in developing reliable, sturdy dive watches to develop the new AquisPro Date Calibre 400 watch. Built to endure some of the most testing conditions underwater, the luxury diving watch, which takes its name from the Swiss brand’s extensive go-to dive watch collection – the Aquis line – can survive damaging levels of magnetism, temperature fluctuations and helium-rich environments. These qualities serve professional divers working on complex engineering projects ad such like. Whilst its name isn’t the same as former models from the ProDiver watch collection, it certainly represents Oris’ high-performance dive watch category, serving as a technical timekeeping tool for professional divers.

Let’s start with how the new Oris AquisPro Date Calibre 400 looks. The new Swiss tool watch is large in size, measuring in at a 49.5mm diameter. Its ergonomically developed lugs are short. Despite its hefty proportions, the watch has been crafted from titanium, offering a lightweight finish for wearing all day and long into the night. The design concept behind the new Oris AquisPro Date Dive watch is to make saturation diving as seamless as possible. Facilitating the unidirectional rotating bezel under the fingertips is a synch and the case is in-built with a watermark of 1000 meters for assisting with some of the most daring levels of deep-sea exploration. The choice to manufacture the watch’s case from titanium also promises additional corrosion resistance. Coated in black DLC  - the case, caseback and crown exude a sleek, contemporary look.

The case:

The new Oris AquisPro Date Calibre 400 watch is made from a multi-piece stainless steel case construction. A ceramic bezel insert in black is equipped to the surface of the unidirectional rotating bezel, with the first 15 minutes of dive time highlighted in a zesty yellow hue. The remainder of the engraved minute scale is executed in white to enhance visibility. One feature to mention about the bezel of the Oris AquisPro Date Calibre 400 watch, is that it features the Swiss brand’s reintroduced patented Rotation Safety System. This feature enables the wearer to adjust and lock the unidirectional rotating bezel into place – a patent commissioned by the professional diving community. A chunky rubber grip ensures it cannot slip underneath wet gloves, making it exceptionally easy to operate. The watch also features a screw-in security crown. The top of the case is fitted with a domed sapphire crystal glass lens with anti-reflective treatment applied to both of its sides.

The dial

Borrowing features from the archetypal diving watch collection by Oris, the new model features identical hands and indexes to the Aquis watch, as well as a distinctive wave pattern against the dial’s black surface – a feature often seen in the ProDiver watch collection. Super-LumiNova treatment, of course, guarantees remarkable luminosity when referencing the watch in dark situations or during the night. Balancing the Oris lettering in white at the top of the dial is a legible date window that resides at 6 o’clock.

The Movement:

The Oris Cal 400 is a proprietary movement that, like the Cal 110 (released back in 2014), is in-house developed, yet the movement is produced by third party Swiss manufacturers. This set-up keeps costs down and enables the brand to remain affordable whilst making full use of its freedom as an independent watchmaker. The Cal 400 has been developed by COO Beat Fischli and his team. The new AquisPro Date Calibre 400 promises superior accuracy that supersedes chronometer standards and promises impressive anti-magnetism too. To help deliver its five-day power reserve, the Calibre 400 is kitted out with twin barrels with an extended mainspring, enabling the engine to run on its own over the course of a weekend, plus more.

The movement also offers a more reliable and stable rotor system since the ball bearings have been removed and replaced by a low-friction slide bearing system. A metal stud runs through a lubricated sleeve creating less wear and tear on the oscillating weight. Furthermore, more than 30 nonferrous and anti-magnetic components are used in the construction of the movement. These reduce the damaging effects of magnetism and include a silicon escape wheel and a silicon anchor. As a result, the Calibre 400 can promise an accuracy that will deviate only by 10 seconds per day after exposure to 2,250 gauss. Compared to a deviation of 30 seconds per day after exposure to 200 gauss in a standard anti-magnetic watch - it becomes clear just how superior the architecture and performance of Oris’ Calibre 400 really is. Confidently endorsing its reliability, Oris is offering a ten-year guarantee on the Calibre 400, which can be enjoyed alongside a recommendation of a 10-year service interval once the wearer registers his watch on MyOris.

The new Oris AquisPro Date Calibre 400 watch is one of the industry’s highest spec dive watches ever produced. It comes completed on a supple black rubber band and the company’s patented Oris Sliding Sledge Clasp crafted from black DLC-coated titanium. This allows the strap to be loosened or tightened when stepping into full diving gear. Two hooks also grab the strap to ensure it stays secured to the wrist in a mechanism that Oris calls the Safety Anchor patent.
