The story of Delma watches began in 1924 in the same place the brand still calls home, Lengnau, Switzerland. It is here, at the core of the Swiss watchmaking region, that Delma watches are brought to life, starting out as a sketch before transforming into the quality designs you can find behind the C W Sellors boutique’s windows. In their beginning, Delma watches were founded by brothers Adolf and Albert Gilomen who designed the first Delma chronograph in 1946. Nicknamed the Midland, the 18 carat yellow gold was equipped with a breathtaking hand-wound mechanical movement and embodied the very beginning of the Delma sports watch collection.
From that moment, Delma went from strength to strength releasing a true racing machine chronograph in 1954, their first automatic divers watch in 1969 and a truly remarkable professional divers instrument in 1975 – a design that would ultimately foresee the future of Delma. Their incredible collections of luxury diving watches are arguably the brand’s biggest allure, with each highly water resistant design surpassing the standard ISO 6425 for professional divers’ watches. All Delma diving watches are equipped with screw down crowns and case backs for long-term water resistance and protection against humidity as well as ratcheted unidirectional bezels for calculating elapsed time while under the waves.
One of our favourite Delma divers’ watches is the Shell Star, a family of high-functioning diving instruments that take inspiration from the first Delma Shell Star released back in 1975. As their first professional divers watch, the Shell Star has become a landmark for the company and serves as the inspiration for all diving watches in the Delma collections. The new Sea Star collection for us stands out from the rest for their resilient designs perfect for willing adventures. Each brushed stainless steel case is equipped with a helium valve for optimal water resistance, enhanced crown protection and luminous orange indexes for easy readability under the waves.
Another popular collection is the Delma Oceanmaster. This series has been designed in collaboration with some of the world’s best offshore sailors and wonderfully combines Delma’s love of motorsport with their passions for exploring the ocean. The nautical-inspired cases are equipped for navigation of the open seas with robust bezels paired with a tactical planner, points of sail indicators and a range of chronograph or three hand complications.
