Jewellery & Watch News

We are pleased to welcome HYT watches to our extensive portfolio of brands at C W Sellors. Their unique, complex and futuristic designs have become must-haves for collectors, most significantly for their remarkable way of telling the time. By combining highly advanced technology, coloured liquids and gravity, HYT watches have reinvented the traditions of timekeeping and captured lovers of the extraordinary.

Despite having only been founded in 2012 and introducing its first hybrid timepiece in the same year, HYT has already proved themselves as masters of timepiece innovation. The first HYT H1.0 was launched at Baselworld 2012 and continued to win three awards including the Best Innovative Watch 2012 at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. Its unique design was inspired by the idea of connecting the past, present and future, specifically the first concepts of time invented 3,400 years ago known as water clocks. Used by the Pharaohs and the Clepsydras, water clocks worked by transporting water from one container to another to measure elapsed time, and of course, over the years this old-school way of timekeeping was completely lost to modern-day innovations. Nevertheless, HYT became inspired by this technique and by combining it with present day technology and the ideologies of the future, they created their first integrated patented fluidic module.

The technology behind HYT watches is complicated, there is no doubt about it, but it is this complexity and master craftsmanship that makes these timepieces so widely coveted and admired. In simple terms, HYT watches work by using two flexible reservoirs with a capillary at each end. In one you’ll find a coloured liquid and in the other a transparent liquid, both immiscible to keep them apart. The two industrial-looking reservoirs at 6 o’clock are engineered from highly resistant, flexible alloy and when powered by the mechanical movement, the reservoir on the left is compressed which allows the second to expand and vice versa. The alternating movement results in the freedom of the liquids in the capillary and as the hours go by, the coloured liquid advances. When the liquids reach full circle at 6 o’clock, the coloured liquid moves back and returns to its original position in what is known as a “rewind”.

This innovative concept must be seen in person to be fully appreciated, and when combined with the understanding of its physics, HYT watches become true luxury masterpieces for the wrist. The technology took almost 15 years to achieve, with one year of that focused entirely on perfecting the technique of filling the capillary. The HYT team also travelled the globe to find the right supplier of the 0.8mm thick curved glass tubes found on the dial. However, when they couldn’t find the perfect material, they decided to create their own. It is this attention to detail and passion for perfection that makes the HYT watch collections so globally adored.

There are a fantastic selection of HYT watches for you to explore on the C W Sellors website. The HYT H0 watches are inspired by human existence and designed to remind us that each moment in our lives is part of a bigger picture. Black liquid is paired with transparent cases, red and pale green colour palettes and brightly accented dials for accessible timekeeping. The HYT Soonow watch collection is another popular choice, often referred to as the HYT Skull watches for their unique Mexican-inspired dials. Many of HYT Soonow watches feature a total of 313 5N 18-karat rose gold pins to make up the three-dimensional skull face.
