Moorcroft Releases Superbloom Vase for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Jewellery & Watch News

As one of the last remaining independent art potteries in the world, Moorcroft continues to surprise and innovative with high quality, ceramic works of art. For 2022, the British manufacturer joins the rest of the country in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an exclusive vase inspired by the flower display planted in the Tower of London’s moat. Meet the new Moorcroft Superbloom vase

The Tower of London moat has been included in the celebrations of several jubilee events over the years. In 1897, Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee with huge military parades, many of which encamped in the moat during the festivities. Later, in 1977, Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee was commemorated at the Tower of London with a 260ft display of 470,000 begonia blooms in the west Tower Moat. The plants were gifted by Belgium, and 55 Belgian gardening professionals travelled to England to carry out the planting. The bed of flowers was used to depict the Royal and Belgian Coat of Arms flanking the Royal Cipher of Elizabeth II.

Now in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the Tower’s moat has been planted with a new garden display called the ‘Superbloom’. Over 20 million carefully selected seeds have been chosen and sowed into the moat with the intention of creating a vibrant sea of flowers which will continue to evolve and change from June to September. The space will offer a new natural landscape in the heart of London, welcoming new habitats for wildlife and pollinators for insects and seed-eating birds. For the first time, the space will be open to visitors every day allowing you to visit and explore the spectacle of colours close up.

Inspired by the Superbloom, Moorcroft have commissioned designer Emma Bossons FRSA to create her own interpretation of the flower display onto a stunning Moorcroft Superbloom vase. Emma began her Moorcroft career at only age 20 and from the outset, her work has become a worldwide success. Her Hepatica range in 2000 and her Queen’s Choice in 2001 have been best-sellers ever since. Then in 2002, the young designer’s Golden Jubilee design was judged to be of such high quality that the Queen consented the use of the Royal Cypher on the base of each piece in the collection. A piece was also taken into the Royal Collection.

For the new Moorcroft Superbloom vase, Emma has depicted some of the many wildflowers that are included in the Superbloom natural landscape including Camomile, Coreopsis Tinctoria and Corncockle. There are also two different types of Poppies, one in a pretty pastel pink and another in the classic bold red variety. The vase is a vibrant celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s 70 year reign, honouring both the colourful life of the monarch and all that she stands for.

The Moorcroft Superbloom vase is a limited edition of only 35 pieces and is expected, like so many of the British ceramist’s creations, to not stick around for long.
