The brand behind the famous single handed watch, Meistersinger, launches a brand new 200-piece limited edition inspired by some of the first one-handed timekeeping devices. The Meistersinger Pangaea 365 delivers a warm ivory-coloured dial, classic black typeface and a solo hand for displaying the hours and minutes.
Meistersinger believes that the digital revolution has us all rushed and focusing too much on the exact time. Instead, the Munster-based brand wants us to take a more relaxed approach to timekeeping and live in the moment, in a world where time belongs to us, not the other way around. With this in mind, all Meistersinger watches tell the time using only one hand and five minute markings around the dial. Telling the time may seem a little daunting at first but it is incredibly easy and intuitive once you get the hang of it. The philosophy of Meistersinger and their love of relaxed timekeeping was inspired by some of the original single-handed clocks seen before the 18th century such as sun dials, clock towers, pocket watches, and even some table and wall clocks. The aesthetics of these devices is revived in the new Meistersinger Pangaea 365 Limited Edition watch which opts for a classic ivory display and traditional typeface.
Starting with the case, the Meistersinger Pangaea 365 watch follows suit to other models in the Pangaea collection with a 40mm stainless steel diameter and a height of 10.5mm. On top, a smooth unadorned fixed bezel secures a layer of sapphire crystal glass above the dial and to the left, a onion-shaped fluted crown is placed. The case back is secured by six screws and also features a sheet of sapphire crystal for a nice view of the movement within. The watch also delivers a 50 metre water resistant rating and secures to the wrist by a dark brown leather strap with light brown stitching and a steel pin buckle.
The real attraction of the Meistersinger Pangaea 365 Limited Edition watch is its dial which wonderfully evokes the look of historical pocket watches with a warm ivory-coloured base and hand painted fine serif typeface. The numerals in particular are worth mentioning as like many Meistersinger watches have double digits, with even the single numbers accompanied by a 0 for balance. On top of that, the numerals are then cleverly tilted as they move around the dial so that each number is always turned towards the centre. Pairing with the black numerals is a black minutes scale adorned and a 24 hour scale both adorned with light blue and red markings for each 15, 30 or 45 minute interval.
Right at the centre of the Meistersinger Pangaea 365 watch is the famous single hand, this time painted in jet black for easy contrast against the ivory dial. The hand is adorned with a sharp arrow-shaped tip, two rounded counterweights and is unusually long so reading the time against the minutes track is effortless. Matching the accents found on the time indications, the dial is finalised by a black Meistersinger logo and light blue lettering for the Pangaea 365 inscription. Powering the Meistersinger Pangaea 365 Limited Edition is a modified version of the Sellita SW200 automatic movement which promises a 38 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800vph.
