Jewellery & Watch News

No other musical group has influenced the rock and roll genre as much as the Beatles. Their songs are amongst the most recorded in history and as of 2009, they were officially the best-selling band of all time with worldwide record sales hitting over 600 million. This is all despite the band last performing in 1969 and their final album ‘Let it Be’ hitting shelves in 1970. It is these final few moments that Raymond Weil has chosen to commemorate in their latest release: the Raymond Weil Maestro Let It Be Limited Edition.
Raymond Weil and the Beatles are no strangers to one another. Their first collaboration was unveiled during the 2016 Baselworld event with a crisp silver-dialled Maestro watch designed in celebration of Raymond Weil’s 40th anniversary. The design was decorated with all thirteen of The Beatles albums including the iconic image of the four walking across the road as seen on the cover of their Abbey Road record. Since then, the Swiss watch manufacturer has released two other limited editions, the first entirely dedicated to Abbey Road and the latter a limited edition commemorating Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Now with the introduction of the Raymond Weil Maestro Let it Be Limited Edition, there are still ten albums left to honour so who knows what awaits for luxury watch collectors and music fans in the next few years.
Now onto the Raymond Weil Let it Be watch. Its design retains all the classic DNA elements of the brand’s famous Maestro model but for the first time showcases a gorgeous skeletonised dial. The opening has been cleverly shaped to mimic the United Kingdom with the meeting of the hands at the centre perfectly positioned to mark The Beatles’ home county of Liverpool. Exposed through the dial is the RW4215 automatic winding movement and its mainspring barrel, balance wheel, and segments of the gear train. Classic perlage decoration can also be spotted alongside some of the 26 jewels.
The Raymond Weil Maestro Let it Be Limited Edition continues to expertly showcase references to the band for eagle-edged fans to notice including four stick indexes on the dial at 4 o’clock to mark the four members of the band, the Beatles logo at 9 o’clock and the transparent case back decorated with a printed copy of the same logo. The brown nubuck leather strap has also been carefully designed to recall the texture of John Lennon’s coat from The Beatles’ last-ever live performance on the rooftop of Apple Corps in 1969.
Sapphire crystal glass is used on the case back to offer a second view into the automatic winding movement housed within; the same crystal also used to protect the sunray-brushed finished anthracite dial. In contrast to its grey backdrop, the dial features stunning rose gold coloured hands for the hours, minutes and seconds and simple stick indexes for the hour markers. Circling the dial of the Raymond Weil Maestro Let it Be watch is a classic 40 millimetre case with a two-step bezel and a 50 metre water resistant rating. The release also promises a power reserve of 38 hours.
