Meet the Raymond Weil Freelancer Pilot Flyback Chronograph Limited Edition

Jewellery & Watch News

Just recently, Raymond Weil has noticeably stepped up their game with more technically complicated timepieces and in-house movements joining their portfolio. The Raymond Weil Freelancer watch collection in particular has welcomed several new chronograph models, skeletonised displays and GMT watches over the past two years. Their latest release is as equally impressive, as the Freelancer collection welcomes a rare pilot’s watch with flyback chronograph function. Meet the new limited edition Raymond Weil Freelancer Pilot Flyback Chronograph

We’ve seen very few – if any – pilot’s watches in the Raymond Weil Freelancer watch collection before. The series typically offers timeless, men’s and women’s dress watches with a hint of sports elegance added in. For the Raymond Weil Freelancer Pilot Flyback Chronograph Limited Edition, the DNA of the Freelancer family is very much still evident, but the design is still an obvious homage to aviation. The perfectly round Freelancer case, bevelled lugs and smooth unadorned bezel are still there but this time the stainless steel is coated with a grey PVD finish for a look that resembles titanium. The case measures to 42mm in diameter and 13.8mm thick and incorporates two piston-style chronograph pushers and a large onion-shaped crown. The crown, which is typical in style for a pilot’s watch, is screw down to ensure a 100 metre water resistance.

For the dial, the Raymond Weil Freelancer Pilot Flyback Chronograph Limited Edition opts for a military green display with graining around the hour track, fine graining on the sunken centre and snailed grooving for the small seconds and 30 minute subsidiary dial. It’s a really beautiful combination of finishes and allows for subtle yet easy separation between the different complications. The dial sits beneath sapphire crystal glass and also provides applied Arabic numerals and propeller-shaped hands adorned in Superluminova for readability in low lighting. Subtle pops of yellow also join the display on the chronograph seconds hand and 30 minutes counter.

Fuelling the Raymond Weil Freelancer Pilot Flyback Chronograph watch is the automatic winding RW5530 calibre. The movement provides fantastic flyback chronograph function which allows you to restart the chronograph without having to reset it, meaning you can time consecutive events without delay. The movement has a column wheel and a horizontal coupling, 29 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 56 hours. You can admire the movement through the limited edition’s sapphire crystal case back which is nicely decorated with a propeller motif. The Raymond Weil Freelancer Pilot Flyback Chronograph is completed by a comfortable brown leather strap with matching brown stitching, riveted detailing and a grey PVD coated push button deployment clasp.
