Bremont marks the 70th anniversary of Duncan Hamilton's legendary victory at the 1953 Le Mans race with the launch of the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch. Its stainless steel Trip-Trick case, tyre-inspired screw in crown and sporty reverse panda dial beautifully captures the essence of innovation and elegance showcased by its iconic car counterpart.
The relationship Bremont and Jaguar first began in 2010, when the British car manufacturer asked the Henley-on-Thames based watch company to create a unique, analogue dashboard clock for the launch of their Jaguar C-X75. Since then, the pair have collaborated on several projects together including Bremont regularly paying tribute to some of the most notable Jaguar racing icons of the 20th century, namely the C-type, D-type and E-type models. In the same way, the Bremont Jaguar watch collection has its own namesake C-Type, D-Type and E-Type watches. For the latest rendition of the Bremont Jaguar C-Type, the British watchmaker celebrates the 70th anniversary of Duncan Hamilton’s 1953 Le Mans race win where the Jaguar C-types finished first, second and fourth, drawing inspiration from the car’s classic shape and design features.
Bremont Co-Founder Nick English adds: “Our relationship with Jaguar dates back to 2010 when we were asked by their Design Director at the time, British design legend Ian Callum, to make some clocks for concept cars such as the C-X75 and the XJ75. We subsequently relished the opportunity to develop a range of Jaguar watches around some of their most iconic and celebrated cars such as the E-type, D-type and now it’s lovely to be adding another C-type model into the mix.”
Keeping things classically monochromatic, the new Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch features a 43mm stainless steel case engineered using the brand’s Trip-Tick case construction partnered with a scratch resistant PVD treated case middle. On top, the bi-directional rotating bezel with tachymeter scale nods to the disc brake of the C-Type while the screw in crown at 3 o’clock comes engraved with the original Jaguar heritage Dunlop tyre tread. Turning the 2023 Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch around also reveals a special closed case back which features a decorative coin depicting the Jaguar ‘Growler’ hood badge.
We’ve seen Bremont launch their Jaguar watch with a silver dial before, but now for the first time, the Bremont Jaguar C-Type features a popular reverse panda dial with a black display and white glossy counters. The layout of the dial mirrors the gauges found inside its car counterpart offering large white Arabic numerals, a white small seconds sub dial at 9 o’clock and a white chronograph 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock. The central hour and minute hands ensure effortless legibility with blue emission Superluminova and partner with a chronograph hand inspired by the needle seen on the C-Type tachometer.
Bremont CEO Davide Cerrato comments: “There is an intrinsic link between motorsport and high-end watchmaking. Automotive inspired timepieces date back to the early rally timers used in the 30s with wristwatches coming in in the 60s at a time when drivers really depended on them, using chronograph functionality to record lap times and pit stops. It’s been over 70 years since the release of the C-type and Bremont is thrilled to continue celebrating Jaguar’s incredible motoring heritage with the release of this new piece.”
The engine used to power the 2023 Bremont Jaguar C-Type watch is a familiar sight: the automatic winding Calibre BE-50AV. It comes equipped with 27 jewels, a Glucydur balance wheel, Anachron balance spring and Nivaflex mainspring and promises a 56 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800vph. Completing the Bremont Jaguar watch is a contemporary black leather racing strap and a traditional stainless steel pin buckle.
