Hamilton brings back its iconic double-faced, reversible wristwatch with the launch of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III. Limited to 999 pieces, the design is more wearable than ever, neglecting the 54mm oval architecture of previous editions and nominating a timeless round 42mm case.
Hamilton are no strangers to creating unique and unconventional watches. Take the Hamilton Ventura watch as an example, it’s unique shield-shaped case is unlike anything else on the market. It’s also a design that made history as the world’s first electrical battery operated watch when it was launched in1957 and is recognised worldwide as the timepiece worn by the King of Rock himself, Elvis Presley. There's also the Hamilton Jazzmaster Regulator Cinema watch which celebrates the Swiss watch manufacturers role in film with unique rotating film reels on the dial. A design even more rare and obscure than these is the Hamilton Face 2 Face watch which features a distinctive swivelling case which gives you access to two contrasting dials. The third model to ever join this series has just been launched, suitably named the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III Limited Edition.
The new Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III watch stands out rather significantly from its two predecessors for its more wearable stainless steel case. Past designs have worn huge on the wrist, measuring to 53mm in diameter with a statement oval shape. The new limited edition is still a large watch, but is now perfectly round with a shrunk down width of 44mm and a 17.25mm height. The overall style is reminiscent of other designs in the Hamilton Jazzmaster watch collection with short lugs, tear-drop shaped pushers and a combination of brushed and polished surfaces. The 50 metre water resistant case of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III watch is then equipped with a unique rotating element which allows you to switch between two dial designs.
The first of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III watch faces is a chronograph dial dressed in a deep anthracite hue with electric blue and white accents. At the very centre is three hands for the hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, the former two adorned in Superluminova markings and the latter coloured in blue. Around the edge is a selection of applied silver-coloured markers, framing complications like the day and date windows at 3 o’clock. The black date disc is neatly exposed all around the dial, interrupted by the three counters. There’s a blue counter at 6 o’clock for the 12 hours, a snailed sub-dial at 9 o’clock for the running seconds and a final, slightly smaller counter at 12 o’clock for the 30 minutes.
Flipping the case over and you’ll find the second dial of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III Limited Edition. This one is a gorgeous skeleton dial with a bright blued hands at the centre and a pair of pulsometer and tachymeter scales around the edge. The central hand here is for the chronograph seconds, but since it is anchored to the chronograph seconds on the other side, it runs in an anti-clockwise direction. As for the movement on display, it’s the Hamilton calibre H-41 based on the Valjoux 7750 promising a 60 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800vph. Completing the Hamilton Jazzmaster Face 2 Face III watch is a patinated brown leather strap with contrasting blue stitching and a stainless steel folding buckle.
