The latest IWC watch to be released in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG is the breathtaking new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “AMG” dressed suitably in an array of materials inspired by the racetrack. Engineered from lightweight titanium, paired with a carbon fibre dial and powered by the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre movement, the special edition is once again grounded in the shared values for uncompromising technology and technical perfection of both luxury brands.

The new IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition AMG watch is certainly not the first of its kind. The long-standing partnership between IWC and Mercedes-AMG first began in 2004 when IWC became the official timing partner for the Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 team. This was then followed by the first of several IWC Ingenuier AMG watches. We’ve seen two limited edition IWC Ingeneuier Chronograph watches designed exclusively by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, an IWC Ingenieur Chronograph dedicated to the legendary “Silberpfeil” race cars by the German manufacturer and just last year, there was a pair of IWC Big Pilots watches inspired by the then Formula 1 title sponsor Petronas.
Seventeen years later and IWC and Mercedes’ partnership appears no closer to an end, still remaining definitive proof of what was clear from the start: that their passions for cutting-edge technology, uncompromising precision and outstanding beauty are perfectly paired – especially for us luxury watch collectors. A few days ago, during a webcast conversation with IWC CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr, Mercedes-AMG CEO Philipp Schiemer and shared brand ambassador and racing driver Maro Engel. they unveiled the latest chapter in their partnership: the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition AMG watch.

The IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition AMG Watch
Like so many of IWC’s AMG special edition watches, the new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition AMG under reference IW377903 takes inspiration from the very cars they drive in. The 43 millimetre case is engineered entirely from grade 5 titanium for an extremely lightweight and scratch resistant finish and then treated to a matte grey polish inspired by AMG‘s signature Selenite Grey Magno paint job. Following in the footsteps of IWC Pilots watches before it, the new edition boasts a slim unadorned bezel, sleek lugs and a screw in crown at 3 o’clock capable of a 300 metre water resistant rating.
Beneath anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass, the IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition AMG watch makes room for an unmissable carbon fibre dial, a material directly derived from AMG’s aero components. These parts are produced through an extremely complex process which involves using heat and pressure to bring to life a material not only remarkably light but incredibly scratch resistant. Its finish is also defined by its “woven” look, the very kind seen on the dial of the IW377903 reference. The black carbon backdrop then opts for contrasting silver chronograph subsidiary dials similarly inspired by AMG vehicles and their dashboard instruments.

Powering the central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, day and date display, small hacking seconds and chronograph counters for 12 hours and 30 minutes is the IWC-manufactured calibre 69385. The movement was recently introduced in the Pilots Chronograph 41 watch which we covered here and delivered a few important updates alongside a 46 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800vph. Its innovative construction can be seen through a tinted sapphire crystal glass back which has been specially emblazed with the Mercedes-AMG logo. The IWC Pilot’s Chronograph Edition AMG watch is completed by a black embossed calfskin leather strap with white contrasting stitching and folding clasp.
