Jewellery & Watch News
Last year, TAG Heuer made history with the launch of their first solar-powered movement. The Calibre TH50-00 was developed in partnership with the Manufacture La Joux-Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland and allowed for any watch it was housed within to be powered entirely by light. The movement debuted within the extraordinary TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch which boasted a black coated stainless steel case and an unusual carbon bezel insert adorned with enchanting green luminous waves.
Following on from the Watches & Wonders release from last year, the Swiss watchmaker launches their second Solargraph timepiece as part of the 2023 LVMH Watch Week which is currently taking place in Singapore. The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph watch stands out from its predecessor for its more traditional looking case and bezel. Rather than any contemporary black coating and unique luminous carbon bezel, the architecture is left pure and simple in uncoated grade 2 titanium. The entire 40mm titanium case is treated to a sandblasted finish and is joined by a matching titanium unidirectional bezel with a black 60 minute divers scale. We’re also promised a 200 metre water resistant rating thanks to flat sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective treatment, a screw in crown and a screw down case back.
The dial of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph 2023 watch maintains all the classic features of previous Aquaracer Professional 200 watches with sporty horizontal grooving, trapezoid-shaped hour markers and strong sword-shaped hands. The hardware for the markers and hands are also generously adorned in Superluminova for easy legibility in the dark. The dial is finished in matte black and to allow for the powering of the movement beneath, is semi-translucent. Completing the dial is a polar blue lacquered seconds hand which is designed to evoke the northern lights, a nod to the origins of the outdoor philosophy of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer.
As mentioned in the introduction, the movement responsible for powering the hours, minutes, seconds and date of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch is the Calibre TH50-00 solar-powered movement. It was launched last year in partnership with the Manufacture La Joux-Perret and utilises both natural and artificial light to fuel its quartz mechanism. There is no need to change the watch’s battery; it takes just two minutes of exposure to direct sunlight to power it for the entire day. Once fully charged, after less than 20 hours in the sun, the watch can run for up to six months with no light exposure. Should your TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph watch stop working, it needs only ten seconds in front of any light source to start working again.
Finishing off the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph 2023 watch is a luxurious grade 2 titanium three-row link bracelet. Like the case, the bracelet is sandblasted and offers a scratch resistant and lightweight finish on the wrist. It closes by a double safety push-button folding clasp with a comfort link extension.
