Boasting a stealthy monochromatic attire, the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch is only the second design installed into the Swiss watch brand’s Aikon Master watch collection, combining the sporty, integrated architecture of the Aikon with the complex dial of the Masterpiece series.
Last year, Maurice Lacroix launched a brand-new design called the Aikon Master Grand Date watch. The architecture was a replica of previous Aikon watches with an integrated bracelet and lugs, the iconic six-claw faceted bezel and flat sapphire crystal glass. The dial on the other hand had never been seen before on an Aikon watch. It was decorated in a rich blue hue and saw the hours and minutes positioned in an off-centre display at the top right paired with a large skeletonised opening appearing bottom left. The layout was reminiscent of Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece watches, a collection typically characterised by their in-house movements and complex dials. Joining the blue-dialled model is now a new all-black design named the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch.
The specifications for the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch are much of the same as its steel-and-blue-dialled predecessor, just dressed in a full black attire. The case measures to 45mm in diameter, keeping it the largest Aikon watch in the family. It’s also still engineered from stainless steel but this time coated in a contemporary black PVD treatment. The entire case is black, including the six-claw bezel, integrated lugs and the screw in crown at 3 o’clock. The crown alongside the flat sapphire crystal glass on top helps ensure a 100 metre water resistant rating.
You guessed it, the dial of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch is also black. The core display has a vertically brushed black DLC coated surface while the handsome off-set display for the hours and minute function contrasts slightly for its Clous de Paris decoration. Below the hours and minutes is a small seconds running counter with a skeletonised opening and to the left is a large double windowed date complication. Allowing for easy readability of these functions, the numerals, markers and hands are printed in white with the latter treated to added luminous inserts. The star of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch is the large skeletonised aperture positioned in the bottom left hand corner. Here you can admire elements of the automatic winding movement working inside including the balance wheel held under an arched skeletonised bridge and the silicon escapement.
Powering the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch is the brand’s in-house Calibre ML331 automatic movement. It utilises a frequency of 18,000vph and has a decent power reserve of approximately 50 hours. To match the rest of its black uniform, the movement debuts some new black components including black coated bridges and a matching black sandblasted oscillating rotor. You can admire the Calibre ML331 through both the dial and exhibition case back of the watch.
Arriving with every order of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Master Grand Date Black watch is two straps. The first is a classic black rubber strap embossed with the Maurice Lacroix logo and the second is a black synthetic leather band with textile effect. Both straps are fitted with black PVD coated steel push-button deployment clasps and can be effortlessly swapped over thanks to Maurice Lacroix’s innovative Easy Strap Exchange system.
