The Garmin Instinct 2 Watch Collection
Before we dive into what’s new with the Garmin Instinct 2 watch collection, let us first introduce you to the models available so you can see exactly what’s on offer. There are 11 models in total, five with classic battery-powered movements and six with solar powered dials. The five standard models are split down the middle with two Garmin Instinct 2 watches measuring to 45mm and three nicknamed the Garmin Instinct 2S, coming in smaller at 40mm. The larger sizes are currently available in Graphite and Electric Lime and the smaller in Graphite, Deep Orchid and Poppy Red. A similar pattens follows in the series of Garmin Instinct 2 Solar watches. There are three designs measuring in at 45mm in Graphite, Mist Grey and Tidal Blue and a further three Garmin Instinct 2S Solar models measuring in at 40mm in Graphite, Mist Grey and Neo Tropic.
Garmin Instinct vs Instinct 2: What’s the difference?
One of the main differences you may have already figured out between the original Instinct and the new Garmin Instinct 2 is the decrease in case size. The precursor measured to 45mm across the entire collection and there was never any “S” model for those with smaller wrists. Now, Garmin have set their sights on appeasing adventurous women as well as men who prefer more understated outdoor watches. Other than their sizing, the exterior of the Garmin Instinct 2 watches maintain similar aesthetics to the original models built to military standards (MIL-STD-810G) for thermal, shock and water resistance rated to 100 metres with a tough fibre reinforced polymer case.
A significant improvement comes from the Garmin Instinct 2’s battery life. The original Instinct boasted a battery life of up to 11 days while the new non-solar Garmin Instinct 2 watches offer up to 28 days of charge. For the Garmin Instinct 2 Solar watches, the power reserve impresses even further thanks to Garmin’s innovative Power Lens technology. It allows for an unlimited battery life perfect for those looking to go off the grid for extended adventures.
We’re also treated to a selection of new sports and training apps on the new Garmin Instinct 2. These include new V02 max training status, new suggested workouts, Fitness Age 2.0, Smart Trainer support, Connected Leader board, Respiration Tracking, Sleep Widget, new Connect IQ and Garmin Pay. There’s also a new HIIT workout profile which tracks your HIIT workouts, including AMRAP, EMOM, Tabata and custom. You can set the number of rounds, work/rest intervals and more for the ultimate fitness session. The Garmin Instinct 2 watches also welcome women’s health tracking allowing you to monitor pregnancy and menstrual cycles with symptom logging, nutrition education and more.
Alongside all this fantastic functionality, you can rest assured that the Garmin Instinct 2 maintains the same features as its predecessor including GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO, TracBack feature, wrist based heart rate monitor, Pulse Ox sensor, sports apps for hiking, running, biking, swimming, kayaking and skiing, Stealth Mode, Projected Waypoints and Jumpmaster mode.
