As if just plucked right out of the ocean, the new DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch is uniquely attired in aged stainless steel and features a vintage compass on its dial. The overly antique-inspired look pays tribute to American author and underwater adventurer Clive Cussler who famously helped influence the world to appreciate the beauty and durability of DOXA watches.
Famed American adventure novelist Clive Cussler wrote over 85 books, selling in total over 100 million copies. He was also an experienced scuba diver and shipwreck explorer, and he created the non-profit organisation, NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency) which is dedicated to the discovery, archaeological survey and conservation of shipwreck artifacts. At a younger age, Cussler worked at a dive shop and before leaving to pursue a career in fiction writing, he was gifted a DOXA Sub 300T watch. The diving watch not only became an essential piece of kit for his underwater adventures, but it inspired the leading character of some of his most famous novels. Dirk Pitt, his fictional adventure hero, wore his own orange-dialled DOXA watch during his own deadline-driven, diving missions.
Now for 2023, DOXA has decided to reimagine their SUB 300T watch in honour of Clive Cussler and the epic action thrillers he wrote. The DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition debuts a distinctive aged steel appearance applied to the watch case, bezel, bracelet, clasp and pin buckle to tribute Cussler’s own love of shipwreck discoveries. The matte-grey like tones and textures reflect a nautical artifact’s journey and the conditions it endured during its time submerged in the depth. This watch is not just a timepiece; it’s a symbol of adventure and discovery, a reminder of the mysteries that lie beneath the waves and the treasures waiting to be uncovered.
The dial of the DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch is also a tribute its namesake detailed with a vintage compass at the centre and coloured in an antique-inspired beige-green colour. Contrasting to the backdrop is black painted markers and hands coated in Superluminova and several red accents on the seconds hand, on the Clive Cussler logo and on certain numbers of the date complication. The numbers for the dates 7, 15, and 31 are displayed in red to reference to the author’s birthday (15th July 1931).
The dial is protected beneath sapphire crystal glass which is joined by a 42.5mm wide aged steel case and 1,200 metre water resistant rating. The latter is assured by a screw in crown and screw down case back engraved with a series of inscriptions depicting the names of shipwrecks and other historical artefacts that were discovered by NUMA. The DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch also presents the familiar Sub 300T’s unidirectional bezel with both a 60 minute scale in black and an outer no-decompression scale in red. Powering the design is the automatic winding Sellita SW200-1 movement with 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours.
The DOXA SUB 300T Clive Cussler Edition watch is delivered with two straps, the first an aged stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet and the second a beige NATO strap with an aged steel folding buckle. The design is not limited but a numbered special edition with its own exclusive number on engraved on the side of the bezel. The watch comes in in a special presentation box shaped like a book.
