Jewellery & Watch News
By popular demand, Swiss watchmaker Czapek has launched a skeletonized version of their popular Antartique watch, showcasing the intricate workings of the Calibre SXH7 movement through the dial. The Czapek Antarctique Révélation watch is another rare example of haute horlogerie at its finest.
Czapek & Cie CEO Xavier de Roquemaurel speaks on the new Czapek Antarctique Révélation watch: “People were in love with the remarkable design of our SXH5 movement, and we therefore asked ourselves how we could somehow make it visible on the dial. One of the first requests had been to engrave a drawing of the movement onto the dial, as a ‘trompe l’oeil, but soon a far more complex idea emerged, namely turning part of the movement upside down in the case and skeletonizing the main plate.”
Inspired by the Czapek Antarctique Rattrapante watch launched in 2021, which featured the first split-seconds chronograph to appear on the dial, the Czapek Antarctique Révélation watch takes this idea one step further and places its Calibre SXH5 movement dial side. To do that, the Calibre SXH5 had to be almost energy reworked; Czapek reversed the escapement, engraved the oscillating mass on both sides and the crown mechanism, now visible to the naked eye, was reworked entirely.
The reworking of the movement also involved moving the seconds from the centre to its own small seconds dial at 4:30 using a sapphire crystal ring, allowing for as much transparency into the mechanism as possible. Ultimately, what emerged was an entirely new movement, the Calibre SXH7. Automatic winding, the movement delivers a frequency of 28,800vp and a power reserve of 60 hours to the Czapek Antarctique Révélation watch.
For the case, the Czapek Antarctique Révélation watch maintains all the characteristics of the previous Antarctique models including the tonneau-shaped stainless steel case with a 40.5mm diameter and a 10.6mm height. There’s the same brightly polished bezel, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a screw in crown for a 120 water resistant rating. To secure the Czapek Antarctique Révélation watch to the wrist, the case includes an integrated stainless steel bracelet with Czapek’s exclusive "Easy Release" system for swapping the strap out for one of rubber or leather. The buckle also has a micro-adjustment device for making minute changes to the bracelet’s length.
