Introducing the Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon Watch

Jewellery & Watch News

To celebrate the year of the Water Rabbit beginning on Saturday, 21 January 2023, Arnold & Son have launched an 8-piece limited edition watch suitably named the Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon watch. The design boasts a sparkly black aventurine dial adorned with a rose gold three-dimensional rabbit and the Swiss watchmaker’s powerful moon complication.

According to the legends of the Chinese Zodiac, the Water Rabbit is a symbol if longevity, peace and prosperity and is known to inhabit a white jade moon to whom it serves as a pet. In honour of this tradition, Swiss watchmaker Arnold & Son have combined their iconic perpetual moon complication with a new rabbit-decorated dial. The Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon watch places the rabbit at the bottom end of the black aventurine glass dial, elegantly handcrafting it from 18 carat gold and hand-engraving fur to add depth and nuance. Beside the rabbit is a selection of folage, rocks and a pagoda all hand-painted with gold powder.

Taking up the top half of the Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon watch’s dial is the luxury watch brand’s legendary moon phase complication. In a large aperture, a turning disc crafted from deep black aventurine glass displays the waxing and waning of the moon. The imposing moon evokes the iridescence of the real celestial body with its mother of pearl decoration and painted elements in relief. At night, the dial of the Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon Limited Edition completely transforms with the moon glowing in the dark thanks to its Superluminova coating. The dial’s aquatic elements as well as the pagoda’s windows are also hand-painted with luminescent material.

Like all the movements created by Arnold & Son, the A&S1512 manual winding calibre is entirely developed, produced, decorated, and assembled in the brand’s Manufacture located in La Chaux-de-Fonds. As well as powering the perpetual moon function and the two hands for the hours and minutes, the Swiss made calibre ensures a 90-hour power reserve and an oscillation frequency of 3 Hz. You can admire the movement though the Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon watch’s exhibition case back.

For the case, the Arnold & Son Year of the Rabbit Perpetual Moon Limited Edition elects much of the same spec as previous editions. It’s 41.5mm diameter is entirely crafted from 18 carat rose gold and features a smooth unadorned bezel, a small knurled crown and tapering lugs. There’s also domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment and a 30 metre water resistant rating. Securing the watch to the wrist is a glossy black alligator leather strap with a contrasting red leather lining and a solid rose gold pin buckle.
