Jewellery & Watch News
We’ve been very spoiled at C W Sellors recently with lots of new designer watch brands joining the ranks in our stores and on our website! One of these incredible watchmakers is Spinnaker, an Italian timepiece manufacturer of robust and reliable diving instruments. Spinnaker watches instantly caught our eye for their breathtaking designs that take on the oceans, particularly in the form of yachting and scuba diving, sports that don't get much recognition in the watch world.
Spinnaker currently has one of the best collections of vintage diving watches we have ever seen, each designed from high quality materials like bronze and steel with some of their newer ranges having been made exclusively in Switzerland. We are not sure how they have done it, but Spinnaker watches somehow perfectly balance the line between the golden age of diving and the discipline of modern day watchmaking.
Spinnaker Bradner Watches
The Spinnaker Bradner watch collection boasts a blend of modern design with vintage nautical features including a compressor style case, inner bi-directional turning bezel and waterproof distressed leather strap. The Bradner Automatic range has been recently re-released to include a Japanese made automatic movement, the NH35, with an improved 41 hour power reserve and a sturdier and more robust case with an enhanced water resistance of 180 metres.
Spinnaker Cahill Watches
The Spinnaker Cahill watch collection is one of their finest tributes to the ocean named after Scuba pioneer James Cahill, who became the first scuba diver to dive off the waters of New England. The vintage 1960’s inspired dials are instantly recognisable thanks to the large rounded indices and Mercedes diver hands coated in Superluminova laid out on the gently textured face. We also love the fact that all Spinnaker Cahill watches come with two straps: one water resistant leather and another heavy duty nylon NATO.
Spinnaker Croft Watches
Inspired by Robert Croft, a US Navy diving instructor who became the first person to free dive to a depth of 200ft, the Spinnaker Croft watch collection is the perfect diving instrument for those who need a robust and reliable timepiece that can tackle the oceans. The 150 metre water resistant cases are made of Marine Grade stainless steel finished with stunning matte finish aluminium and unidirectional turning bezels with luminous markings at the 60 minute position. The bezels have also been perfectly designed to offer precise measurements of elapsed time with exactly 120 clicks.
Spinnaker Fleuss Watches
Continuing with the diving theme, the Spinnaker Fleuss watch collection is named after Henry Fleuss who is widely regarded as the inventor of the first self-contained underwater breathing apparatus in 1878. Allowing men to explore worlds under the waves, each Spinnaker Fleuss watch beautifully tributes Fleuss and the divers who helped develop the mechanics of ocean discovery. These stunning diving watches offer a more modern aesthetic compared to other their collections with the textured dials fitted with large Arabic numerals and 43mm cases kitted with stainless steel bracelets.
Spinnaker Hull Watches
Possibly one of our favourite collections just for their unique dial designs, Spinnaker Hull watches come with breathtaking fumee treated dials blending multiple colours and textures together alongside striking Roman numerals and rounded indices. The Hull automatic collection is designed to last with streamlined cases crafted in the traditional ‘cushion’ shape and short lugs that sit comfortably against the wrist. Thanks to the Japanese made NH35 automatic movement, these also make for perfect diving date watches equipped with hour, minute and seconds hands and a sleek looking date window at 3 o clock.
Spinnaker Tesei Watches
The Spinnaker Tesei watch collection is another favourite designed to celebrate the spirit and performance of naval officers, in particular famed Italian Naval officer Teseo Tesei. With robust cases, unfussy dials and impressive automatic movements, these are dream diving watches for anyone requiring only the best in durability and comfort. The Spinnaker Tesei Bronze watch collection which was recently revealed is also the very first range from the brand to be hand assembled in Switzerland with Swiss made automatic movements shown off through the exhibition case backs.
Spinnaker Wreck Watches
Last but certainly not least, the Spinnaker Wreck watch collection celebrates the fascinating aspects of the Scuba world including fallen ships and other underwater wrecks. The cases of Spinnaker Wreck watches have been purposely distressed and finished by hand to look as though the watches themselves have been saved from the ocean floor. We absolutely love this idea and we are certain fans of vintage watches will too. The mineral crystal glass is kept smooth and scratch-free, but the dial beneath has been distressed like the case and fitted with luminous hour and minute hands to allow for suitable low light visibility.
Boasting immaculate designs and incredible automatic movements, you will struggle to find a range of vintage diving watches like this at such affordable prices anywhere else. At C W Sellors, we have all the latest Spinnaker watches on our website with many models also available to view in our stores.
