Following the success of the BR 05 Gold Green and the BR 05 Green Skeleton, Swiss watchmaker Bell & Ross has launched their popular BR 05 Chrono with a stainless steel case and a brilliant green sunray dial. Let’s explore the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch in more detail…
Bell & Ross have no shortage of emblematic watches within their portfolio. Most notably, their expertise in the aviation industry is proudly showcased in collections like the BR 01 and BR 03. These signature “circle within a square” designs are hard to overlook, inspired by the similarly shaped dashboard instruments found in a plane’s cockpit. Then in 2019, Bell & Ross did something nobody expected; they launched an integrated sports watch named the BR 05. Impressively, these watches cleverly blended all the codes of the luxury sports watch with the DNA of their popular pilot’s watches and well, the rest is history. The Bell & Ross BR 05 collection has since grown into the new flagship for the brand with new models launched on the regular with new dial colours, case materials and complications such as chronograph and GMT.
For the BR 05’s latest addition, Bell & Ross has combined their BR 05 Chrono specs with a new nature-inspired green sunray dial. Green has been used on the dials of BR 05 watches before, but only as a time-only version with an 18ct gold case and a limited edition BR 05 Skeleton model with tinted green glass. This time, the glossy green display presents two subsidiary dials at 3 and 9 o’clock for the small seconds and 30 minutes counter which contrast nicely to the rest of the sunray-brushed finish backdrop with azurge decoration. The counters are also outlined in recessed silver track to match with the large silver numerals, hour markers and central hours, minutes and seconds chronograph hand. Finally, the dial of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch presents a matching green, sloped 60 minute flange and a green-coloured date window between the 4 and 5 o’clock position.
Other than its new dial, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch maintains all the spec of previous BR 05 Chrono watches. There’s the signature “circle within a square” case which sits on the wrist at 42mm wide and 14.25mm tall. It has a fixed bezel with four screws and each corner and gorgeous integrated lugs which elegantly flow into a choice of a green rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet. The case warrants a 100 metre water resistance, permitted by the screw in crown with crown guards and screw down exhibition case back. Both the front and back of the watch are protected by sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment.
“The case and strap are one. This design is a nod to a type of watch that first appeared in the 1970s. Transposed into the Bell & Ross identity, we were able to achieve a result that is at once clear, modern and graphic,” emphasises Bruno Belamich, Creative Director of Bell & Ross.
Fuelling the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch from the inside is the BR-CAL.301 automatic winding calibre. The movement is Swiss made and provides a frequency of 28,800vph and a 42 hour power reserve. There’s a total of 27 jewels, some of which can be spotted through the exhibition case back alongside the skeletonised oscillating rotor.
