If you haven’t already watched The Matrix trilogy, then what are you waiting for? The series created a revolution in sci-fi action and visual effects, reshaping Hollywood cinema for the 21st century. Now, after almost twenty years since the release of the last instalment, director Lana Wachowski brings to life the fourth film: The Matrix Resurrections. In celebration of it’s release, movie watch legends Hamilton have launched a limited edition watch.
Named the Hamilton PSR MTX, the watch looks like it has been picked straight out of The Matrix franchise with a stealthy all-black finish and futuristic green LCD dial. Just as Morpheus’ explains in the quote above, this is a watch you’ll want to see in person. It takes most of its specifications from the Hamilton PSR watches launched back in 2020 which celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hamilton’s retro Pulsar watch from 1970. For those that don’t remember, the Pulsar made history as the first digital watch in the world, so as you can imagine, the release of the PSR collection half a decade later was a huge success. The series included a brushed steel model and a yellow gold iteration.
Now the collection reveals its third instalment with the release of the Hamilton PSR MTX Limited Edition. It differs largely from its precursors for its black PVD coated stainless steel case which measures in at 40.8mm wide and 34.7mm tall. It’s cushion-shaped profile still boasts towering sapphire crystal glass as well as a nice brushed finishing and a water resistant rating of 100 metres. Turn the Hamilton PSR MTX watch over and a clever nod to the film is found on the case back. The “digital rain” or matrix code synonymous with the film is engraved at the centre and cleverly, yet subtly, reveals the brand’s name and the water resistant rating within the symbols.
Like the original PSR watches, the Hamilton PSR MTX Limited Edition boasts a futuristic “dial” combining both LCD and OLED to display the time with the numerals glowing in green rather than green, another reference to the film. The LCD display makes sure that the time is always legible in daylight while the OLED is brought to life using the button on the side of the case for readability in the dark. The Hamilton PSR MTX watch is completed by a three-row link black DLC coated stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle and is a limited edition of 1,999 pieces to mark the year the first The Matrix film was released.
