In celebration of the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6th May, Fabergé has unveiled a pair of commemorative lockets for their Heritage collection. The Fabergé King’s Coronation Lockets include a Coronation Crown Surprise Locket inspired by St Edward’s Crown and a Gold State Coach Surprise Locket which features a miniature replica of the iconic Gold State Coach. Both designs are stamped with the British Hallmarking Council's new hallmark, depicting King Charles III.
It was only this time last year we were celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II with the launch of our exclusive Fabergé Royal Jubilee Limited Edition Crown Surprise Locket. The design was created in a partnership between C W Sellors and Fabergé to celebrate the occasion, reimagining the famous Imperial State Crown in the purple hues associated with the Jubilee. The 22-piece limited edition features a gorgeous 18-carat white gold egg pendant dressed in purple guilloche enamel and diamonds which opens up to reveal a homage to the original Imperial State Crown. The crown itself is adorned in a 1.7mm ruby to depict the Black Prince’s Ruby and a 1.5mm diamond to represent the Cullian II diamond as well as several emeralds and blue sapphires. The piece is also stamped with the rare orb hallmark sanctioned by the British Hallmarking Council for the historic occasion.
Now, in less than a week, the coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will take place and celebrating with them, Fabergé launches a new duo of King’s Coronation Surprise Lockets. The first is the Fabergé Heritage Coronation Crown Surprise Locket which takes inspiration from St Edward’s Crown, the crown used at the moment of coronation and one of the nation’s most precious treasures. It is handcrafted from 18 carat yellow gold and decorated in red guilloche enamel and 17 brilliant cut white diamonds. Inside is a reinterpretation of the legendary crown, also handcrafted from 18 carat yellow gold and set with 4 round blue sapphires, 10 round Gemfields Zambian emeralds and 2 round Gemfields Mozambican rubies. The crown also sits upon its own carved carnelian stone platform.
The second creation is the Fabergé Heritage Gold State Coach Surprise Locket which features a miniature replica of the iconic Gold State Coach. Since it was built in 1762, the carriage has been used to transport famous British kings and queens to coronations, jubilees, and other prestigious events. The exterior of the Fabergé Heritage Gold State Coach Surprise Locket is exactly the same as its counterpart above, opting for an 18 carat yellow gold egg pendant with red guilloche enamel and 17 round brilliant cut white diamonds. Inside is different, opening up to reveal a miniature carriage in 18 carat yellow gold sitting upon a carnelian carved stone platform and set with a single diamond on the side of the door.
Both Fabergé King’s Coronation Surprise Lockets will be stamped with the rare commemorative component mark sanctioned by the British Hallmarking Council for the King’s Coronation. The coronation hallmark has been designed by Thomas Fattorini, taking inspiration from a medal by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The stamp see’s the King’s head in profile. Commemorative hallmarks like this are only stamped on precious metal jewellery for a limited time, so these Fabergé King’s Coronation Surprise Lockets are likely to become highly collectible pieces in the future.
