Exploring Montblanc Watches

We are incredibly excited to announce Montblanc as one of the newest members of the C W Sellors family! As well as their stunning selections of fountain pens, notebooks, leather bags and cufflinks, we are showcasing all their latest luxury watch releases on our website available with interest free finance and free delivery. Today, we will be exploring all the current Montblanc watch collections in more detail to help our wonderful customers find the perfect model for them!

Montblanc have a truly fascinating history, one which stems from ingenuity and imagination. It started in 1906 when Wilhelm Dziambor, Christian Lausen and later Claus Johannes Voss took over an already established fountain pen business and laid the foundation for the future internationally successful company Montblanc. The name for the company also has an interesting story and is believed to have been decided during a card game when a relative of one of the partners drew an analogy between a Montblanc fountain pen becoming the pinnacle of writing instruments and the Mont Blanc mountain, the world’s most majestic and highest peak in the Alps.

It wasn’t until 1924, however, that Montblanc began to get noticed worldwide and it started with the launch of the legendary Montblanc Meisterstuck fountain pen – a design that remains within their collections today. The "Meisterstück 149" fountain pen soon became the ultimate symbol for writing culture and the style icon for perfect timeless design. After almost 80 years focusing solely on luxury stationary, Montblanc found themselves bringing their abilities for technical innovation and artistic mastery to the world of men’s jewellery which included cufflinks and luxury timepieces. They established the Montblanc watch factory in the heart of the Swiss watch industry in Le Locle and bought to life the brand’s philosophy of master craftsmanship and high quality design within automatic and quartz watches. They have also manufactured some of their own impressive in-house movements.

Let’s take a look at some of the Montblanc watch collections in more detail…

Montblanc 1858 Watches

The Montblanc 1858 watch collection is inspired by the legendary Minerva watches from the 1920’s which were designed for military personnel and used for outdoor exploration. While somehow capturing the spirit of mountain adventurers and the essence of returning to nature, these stunning men’s watches also bring to life modern aesthetics with satin-finished stainless steel cases, slim bevelled horns, vintage-inspired bronze detailing and case backs engraved with the emblematic Mont Blanc mountain.

One of the latest additions to the collection is the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere watch which commemorates the world’s Seven Summit mountaineering challenge. It features a remarkably lightweight 42mm titanium case with a breathtaking blue and white dial inspired by the icy colours of glaciers. Hidden within is one of the brand’s in-house manufacture movements which boasts a world-time complication with two domed globes which turn in opposite directions and complete a full rotation in 24 hours. The 24 hour scale and day and night indication make it the perfect timepiece for international travellers.

Montblanc Heritage Watches

By combining the sophistication of watchmaking's past with today’s daring design codes and innovative technology, the Swiss watch brand have developed a stunning selection of Montblanc Heritage watches perfect for lovers of traditional design. Commemorative of the historical Minerva watches again, but this time those from the 1940’s and 50’s, these luxury timepieces for men showcase retro inspired dials with rhodium coated Arabic numerals, dot indexes and enhanced Superluminova coated hands against a backdrop of white or salmon pink.

The Montblanc Heritage Monopusher Chronograph watches are a favourite of ours for bringing a touch of sports-elegance to the retro aesthetic. If you look closely at the two subsidiary counters for continuous seconds and 30 minutes, the minutes chronograph counter at 3 o’ clock reveals an indicator for 3, 6 and 9 minutes. This subtle touch is a nod to the days when coin-operated telephones were used, and users needed to track the length and cost of a call. The vintage characteristics continue through the 42mm stainless steel case, curved lugs, and domed sapphire crystal glass.

Montblanc Star Legacy Watches

The Montblanc Star Legacy watch collection was recently reinvented with stunning new aesthetics, Swiss made technology and wearer-comfort as a priority. They remain inspired by the brand’s Minerva heritage but are more refined with moon-phase complications, subsidiary date dials and breathtaking additions of guilloche detailing, onion shaped crowns and brilliant cut diamonds on the dials and cases.

Measuring from 32mm to 42mm in size, there is a Montblanc Star Legacy watch for every gender and wrist size, but for women, we absolutely love the Montblanc Star Legacy Small Second 32 mm watches. Decorated in 28 diamonds (0.056 carats), a silvery-white dial with the Maison’s exploding star guilloché pattern in the centre and highlighted by prominent anthracite-coloured Arabic numerals, these Montblanc ladies’ watches whisper elegance, style, and feminine luxury.

Montblanc Tradition Watches

Distinctively Montblanc, the Montblanc Tradition watch collection brings to life classic watchmaking codes with the familiar sophisticated aesthetics seen within Montblanc fountain pens. The smooth stainless steel cases and straight horns remind us of the subtle contours of their writing instruments while the domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment provides only the best in terms of legibility, just like that of the ink.

We love the simplicity of the Montblanc Tradition Chronograph Quartz watch with its double-shaped bezel and classic dial decorated with Roman numerals and a prominent Roman “XII” at the 12 o’clock position. The Swiss made quartz movement provides high levels of accuracy and precision with a variation of only a few seconds per month and equips the timepiece with hour, minutes, small seconds, chronograph seconds and two chronograph counters for 1/10th second and 30 minutes.

Montblanc TimeWalker Watches

For enthusiasts of motorsport, the Montblanc TimeWalker watch collection will become a must-have.  These contemporary yet retro-inspired pieces commemorate the golden age of motor racing with monochrome black and white “panda” chronograph dials and sporty perforated leather straps. The bold contrast between the black counters and white dial are reminiscent of classic racing cars while the subtle red detailing found on the chronograph seconds and subsidiary counter hands are suggestive of the red-tipped speed indicators.

Montblanc are renowned for their use of high quality materials, in all their watches, fountain pens and luxury goods, and the Montblanc TimeWalker watch collection is no different. The 43mm stainless steel cases are equipped with a fixed black bezel engineered from high-tech black ceramic renowned for its scratch resistant and durability while sapphire crystal glass provides optimal legibility over the dial and the straps are handcrafted from Italian leather from Florence. Hidden within is the chronograph Calibre MB 25.10 featuring traditional finishing such as Cotes de Geneve, circular graining, blue screws and a new monobloc oscillating weight made of black rhodium-plated tungsten and designed in the shape of a steering wheel.

We particularly love the Montblanc Boheme Day & Night watches which showcase a romantic small complication for day and night across half of the dial.
