Celebrating the legendary politician, the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill watch is designed to be both rugged and sophisticated, charismatic yet classic, featuring an innovative modular case designed with technical complexity. Winston Churchill and Cuervo y Sobrinos
With such a long and remarkable history, it is no surprise that Cuervo y Sobrinos has attracted a long list of celebrity admirers. Alongside Albert Einstein, Ernest Hemingway and Clark Gable, the luxury Cuban watch brand attracted the attention of no other than Winston Churchill. Churchill first visited Cuba in 1895 aged just 21 when he was a young officer in the 4th Hussars and although he visited for only a few weeks, it was enough for him to return. After undertaking his arduous role as Prime Minister during the Second World War, Winston Churchill crossed to Atlantic to the US at the invitation of President Truman and after following his official duties, he took to opportunity to visit Cuba for the second time.
Himself and his wife Clementine stayed at the prestigious Hotel Nacional and during his stay he visited the Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique. In remembrance of his trip, Cuervo y Sobrinos launched a collection named the Robusto inspired by Churchill’s favourite cigars, the Romeo y Julieta. These were short and “robust” cigars, often nicknamed “Robusto” and so, the new Churchill-inspired watch collection got its name. The Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date Salmon Dial
The new Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill watch maintains all the characteristics of the collection before it but introduces a new salmon pink dial. The colour is breathtaking with the rich copper tones contrastingly beautifully against the silver applied indices, numerals and hands. The dial is also entirely handcrafted from exclusive guilloche and features a traditional ‘Clous de Paris’ decoration and two apertures in matching salmon. The apertures located at 6 o’clock reveal the date and day in black lettering.
Like all pieces in the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto collection, the new Churchill Day Date Salmon watch is presented in stunning dual-finished stainless steel and titanium. The main 43 millimetre architecture is engineered from polished stainless steel with two lateral segments in brushed finished titanium. At 3 o’clock, the iconic hinged level crown allows you to wind and control the automatic winding movement within while through the case back, the Swiss made calibre is put on display. The movement in question is the CYS 5105 Calibre with a 44 hour power reserve, 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800vph.
To complete the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date Salmon Dial watch, you are awarded with a choice of two straps with every 30-piece limited edition. The first is a classic stainless steel and titanium bracelet and the second, a black Louisiana alligator leather strap. Both are secured to the wrist by a stainless steel folding buckle engraved with the CyS emblem.
