Colour has always been an important factor for anyone buying a luxury timepiece and brightly coloured dials in particular have been of huge interest over the past few years. One brand that is certainly no stranger to bold dial designs is DOXA, a Swiss watch manufacturer renowned for their legible, robust, entry-level diver’s watches. Their impeccable reputation continues to pave the way for the future of diving, as does their latest release, the DOXA Sub 200 Whitepearl.
Debatably coming in second place to the legendary DOXA Sub 300, the Sub 200 collection is one of the brand’s most recognisable designs. Before today, the 3-hand stainless steel divers instrument was available in six daring colours including Searambler (silver), Sharkhunter (black), Caribbean (navy), Divingstar (yellow), Aquamarine (turquoise) and their most iconic colour Professional (orange). Today’s DOXA Sub 200 Professional watch closely replicates the original Sub 200 watch released during the 1960s which was purposely engineered with a bright orange dial for instant legibility beneath the waves. Now, underwater legibility is taken to a whole new level with the release of the DOXA Sub 200 Whitepearl watch adorned with a pure white dial and a matching white bezel.
It’s not often we see a white-dialled divers watch (although the Breitling Superocean 36 does come to mind) and the crisp readability of the DOXA Sub 200 Whitepearl is quite astonishing. The white dial is adorned with white Superluminova markings on the hour markers, the hands for hours and minutes and on the tip of the seconds hand. The rest of the hardware including the monochrome date window at 3 o’clock and the minutes track is decorated in matte black for an immaculate contrast.
White also dominates the sapphire bezel which like the dial offers an easy to read monochromatic aesthetic with black markers, a 60 minute scale and a triangle marker at 12 o’clock. The bezel of the DOXA Sub 200 Whitepearl watch tops the classic 42 millimetre cushion-shaped case which is engineered from 316L stainless steel, just like all the other DOXA Sub 200 watches before it. The case is then equipped with a screw in crown and screw down case back and domed sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating for heightened legibility.
Handsomely engraved with the iconic DOXA fish logo and a fitting wave pattern, the screw down case back protects the DOXA Sub 200 Whitepearl watch, and the automatic winding movement housed inside. The movement within is the Swiss made ETA 2824-2 calibre which carries 25 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 48 hours. It also powers the three central hands for hours, minutes and seconds and the calendar complication marked at 3 o’clock.
The Doxa Sub 200 Whitepearl watch is currently available in three references. The first is placed on a stainless steel beads of rice bracelet with folding clasp (799.10.011.10). There is then the option of a white rubber strap, the first in size standard (799.10.011.23) and the second in size small (799.15.011.23). Both rubber straps are in the Whitepearl colour, printed with the DOXA signs on both sides and secured by a pin buckle. The Doxa Sub 200 Whitepearl watch on the metal bracelet retails at £950 while the rubber strap variant retails at £910.
